Shawn C. Phillips has a supporting role in this new drama thriller called Trauma, and it's about racism and police brutality.  Supposedly he has a "crucial" role in this as a man struggling with alcoholism.

It may be his breakout role.  Though he doesn't appear in the trailer he's talked about it quite a bit on his Facebook.

Could be a dramatic shift in his career. I've always felt Chauncey was more suited for disturbed / sexual deviant characters in dramatic films, rather than the typical hat-wearing boner college kid roles in slashers that he typically plays.

I'll add that I mean that as a compliment. He could become more of a cult-character actor, which leave a lasting impression. A lot of those zero budget slashers don't have any meat in their dialogue and character development.

He needs to hone his craft further if he wants to be a respectable character actor, even if it's just cult movies.

Does he even audition for these Indiegogo financed movies, or does he donate money to them in exchange for parts?  Has Shawn even experienced the audition process?  I'm guessing he had to at least audition for his roles in those SyFy flicks Ghost Shark and Haunted High.

It's possible he could be a Clint Howard type, and maybe that's what he's aiming for.

His career isn't growing at all. He gets these bit parts in movies because of his social media following. If he had to pay bills he wouldn't be able to afford to do this. He's basically living a fantasy world.

He's probably more focused on his acting "career" now because he's realized that his YouTube days are numbered. You could sense the desperation when he was doing streams almost every day and giving those house tours when the pandemic started. He's never going to be able to support himself with acting, but it keeps him busy, I guess. If he didn't have rich parents, he'd probably end up like MJ and drop off the map completely.

MJ was definitely the more talented of the two too, he could do different voices and stuff. Shawn just has the luxury of having parents who will let him pretend to be an actor while paying his bills.

Chauncey see's himself as quite versatile when it comes to voice impressions. You don't know what you don't know - he's never had any formal training, so he can't see his flaws.

To be fair - if he had a full head of hair, he might be getting more work. Unfortunately the hat limits him to more mature roles, which he isn't interested in.

I do have to laugh at all the movie hunting videos and they never buy anything.

Yeah, he catches and releases. He gets so many films for free, so films have lost a sense of value. Plus he's run out of things to watch. 99% of films are easily available to buy online at any time too.
He really needs to pivot into being an actual film critic.

There's quite a few on Youtube that do it. A British one I watch is Big Pauly. He's all about the feel, the steelbooks and the smoothness and the embossing and the slipcovers. It's about presentation on the shelf, the spine has to look nice, the artwork has to be centred and same thing.......go round all these shops, find a ton of stuff he's never heard of and buys none of it. I think a lot of these collectors just have in mind what they want and that's all they get.

I think that's what I would want to see more than anything, whether it's Big Pauly or Shawn or Brendan, just to see them really enjoy it. If it really brings about any actual happiness or is it just a hobby.....an expensive hobby mind you for many but I'm fascinated.

I did have to laugh with Brendan in a recent video, he's showing off the room and of course the garage is full of boxes, who knows what they'll do if they ever want to use it to actually store a car and he eventually gets to this bookcase in his room.....it's the 4K bookcase lol. Packed full of all his free review copies of 4K movies lol. Then he glances over the setup with his TV and just manages to blurt out his blu ray 4K player. No Brendan.......I don't think you really have a 4K player, I think you're just pretending lol. I'm not even sure if Shawn has one. Apart from lots of colours and bright images I've never heard them give an actual review of what 4K actually is. We get it Brendan, you've realised there is some worth in them so you're keeping them lol.

My prediction is Chauncey's breakout role will be from his friendship with Jill Kill. She's a writer for Stephen King's The Stand on CBS. Not sure if there is meant to be a 2nd season, but Chauncey might ask Jill for a cameo. Maybe she'll keep him in mind for her next job.

They reviewed imported/region-locked blu-rays despite not having region free blu-ray players. A lot of viewers called them out on it, so they eventually caved and bought region free players. Of course, they had to make videos of their purchases. My guess is Shawn only watches 50% of what he reviews and Brendan watches maybe 10%. I could see Brendan having the movie on in the background while he edits videos on his computer. Both have mentioned that they prefer to watch short movies (under 90 minutes) because they can cram more into a day. Serial dramas are a no-go because an entire season would take up too much of their time.

As for 4K, I'm certain that they have 4K players, but they're incapable of reviewing the technical aspects. Shawn always mentions the "high dynamic range," but I don't think he even knows what that means. They treat blu-rays like they're fast food. They unwrap, watch once, and throw the plastic case on a shelf to collect dust.

I wonder if they notice a difference in picture quality. I think it's starting to dawn on them now everytime they go out and its' now a regular thing that shelves are bare and new releases not stocked that the days of physical media might be slimming down considerably. Even then........I'd love to know if they have any real attachment to it all. I would say it's like someone with a record collection but plays records a few times a month. I don't know if it's a true love or just literally a hobby and there's nothing else to spend money or do and at some point I know it sounds harsh but they do need a life. They need to find some real true happiness in life whether that's with someone or not, It's annoying me because I'm realising how much time I've spent watching them and they're no further forward in life and there doesn't seem to be any change in sight. Maybe a lot of Youtubers are like that and they're in this bubble and this little fantasy world they've made for themselves and they can't break out and even with Shawn I'll see him in these stores and you can tell he's really into it.......he really has memorised what films came out the week before and what ones are out this week and what ones are old and he needs to check all the sections and I don't mean this to sound dismissive but I can't imagine me being like that. I can't picture it but it shows me just how into it he is, this is really a big part of  his day, he's like a man on a mission and the warning signs are there. The empty shelves are there on screen, he's looking at emptyness and he's not realising that the stores not bothering to get stock in is a warning sign and of course he wont drop any money there anyway so it's not like he's supporting physical media himself. He'll do it next week and it'll be the same again, looking at empty shelves and for some reason remembering all these films and they're release dates. There's a lot more to life than this. This isn't a life. Someone should step in and say Shawn you need to find things to do, you need to meet friends and make friends and make a life for yourself, this isn't a way to live your life. Same with Brendan. Someone in his life needs to step in and tell him, you're nearly 40. You need to get a job, you need to get out that house and you need to live a life.

I don't think they watch anything as much as their fans think they do. They don't need to. The storyline is on the back cover and they're not going to give spoilers, they don't even need to open the case up. It means nothing, it's just there for show and that's why they need to break out of this habit because if it was a true hobby and a true love they would know all about 4K, they would have the proper setups, they would give proper reviews. I think the videos are just habit too. I think if they stopped making videos they would still get review copies, it wouldn't affect them one bit. The enthusiasm is there to make the videos but the content? It's empty. There's nothing you can learn from them. It's empty words but I'll give them credit for at least doing that and in Shawn's case sitting remembering what films came out last week compared to this week while he shows us where they're meant to be on a shelf. I just see it as time wasted. I just had to laugh at Brendan with his 4K bookcase, he's an idiot but there's a little common sense in there, he knows the stuff in boxes is junk, he knows most of the rest is junk but a little lightbulb went off in his head and he's thought......I'll keep the 4Ks lol. I'm sure they'll end up on his Ebay store at some point. I hope for they're sake before they hit 40 someone steps in and tries to help them out. At this stage Danny and Fluffy and Luna they should be looking at settling down too and having their own place and independence and I think the days of conventions are over so there's not gonna be meeting places where you can find similar people to talk to. And even with COVID that should be a sign that maybe........maybe it's time to really appreciate what you have and make the most out of life..

I actually wonder if conventions are indeed a thing of the past.  With COVID-19 wiping out every single big time event (not just comic cons, but trade shows, concerts, theater, etc.), I actually wonder what's the next big thing?

As you point out, with COVID, times are different now.  It's time for all of us to grow up and move on.  And appreciate what we have, the good times we had when we were younger, but they are over now.  comic cons are over.  It's time to move on, and focus on more meaningful pursuits, e.g. settle down and raise a family, buy a house, etc.

A big thing with the conventions was the face to face interaction, the handshake, the looking into each others eyes. Even the handshake part isn't possible now but of course the usual suspects of the convention circuit are milking the virtual meet and greets and charging good money to basically sit at home and do it through a screen. And maybe that will open the door for more celebs to do that kind of thing and be more personal with fans but without the travel and the sitting at tables etc but you and I know it's not going to be cheap. It's always going to be aimed at making money but I don't know how you can replicate those conventions any other way, part of it is the guests and the merch tables and the meeting new people. I think the physical media side of it is kinda mirroring that. I'm not saying COVD doesn't affect distribution or trucks not arriving on time or maybe staff is short and they don't get to all the the right things on a Tuesday morning but.........when it's been at least a few months now and these big stores in America continuously have empty shelves.......I think it's maybe more to do with they're just not selling enough of it and maybe there's copies in the back but it's not going to be what it was. But of course with Shawn and Brendan it never comes across as sincere anyway, there is no passion, there is no real desires there so you have to wonder if these stores just carried the bare bones releases, the new films out and nothing else.........would they even be upset? They barely spend a penny on anything. Maybe 5 years ago it was different but these days they don't buy anything, and there's a few other movie collectors like that on Youtube they complain about physical media and then they go to these thrift stores and they find all these places that are packed with it and they buy nothing. Like Shawn in that Family Video store, he asked for the price of on DVD he liked and they said $5 and he left it. $5 was too much for him to spend and then you look at the size of the place and they owner basically said as long as we have at least one copy of something.....everything is for sale, just ask for a price. He didn't see anything else? Out of that entire store?

They have a few years before they turn 40. I think then it's time to maybe try and move on, especially if COVID is still around. I know Brendan has quite a few grey hairs but it will interest me to see them age and see how they cope with it, I don't know when Shawn will go grey but it will be interesting to see that adjustment.

I mean, how much have we seen Brendan straight up talk about buying movies that he never even bothers unwrapping? That always seemed kind of sad in certain ways.

Honestly, I've wondered it myself where Brendan and Shawn and their channels will be in upcoming years. The Wal-Mart in my town is barely stocking any new movies compared to years past as well, as been said on that front. Most of the movies I ever buy come from Amazon. I would hate to think if my main source came from physical stores the way things are looking there. Worst comes to worst, let's say places like Wal-Mart and Target go through with it and have an extraordinarily tiny movie section, even far less than currently, if not outright stop selling physical media altogether. There goes at least one of Shawn's main videos.

Brendan at least has built up a viewership of video about him hanging out with people and doing whatever and going out seeing places. Shawn doesn't even have MJ anymore for such a thing.

We might see some major changes with Chauncey. Perhaps he has saved every dollar he's been paid combined with all the things his parents cover (health insurance, car, food etc). He could be in a reasonably good financial situation. If he continues getting these larger production gigs; I can see him getting some work done to stay young. He'll probably get his skin addressed, and possibly a hair transplant. I suspect he'll move in with his brother. Not sure if Dweebo has been working all this time though, there's a chance that Chauncey is the bread winner / golden child.

If he doesn't blow up - I imagine his channel will be EXACTLY the same, which it has over the past few years post weight loss. Physical media will continue to dwindle down, but there will always be a small selection in major retail. It will result in his content being less "exciting" to those that watch his Tuesday Shopping videos - but I personally think his fanbase is easily entertained by Chauncey. Perhaps Chauncey will start to travel further to make "better" content.
