New Year greetings to all—

Sorry to start the year with sad news, but want to let you know that the dear, inimitable former coordinator of CONW Barbara Huston died on December 19. Her memorial service will be held this Saturday, January 14, 3:00pm, at Trinity Episcopal Parish, 609 8th Ave, Seattle.

You can read her obituary at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?pid=183275614#sthash.ZFYgDLFU.dpuf

Barbara was quirky, charming, generous, sometimes difficult, utterly devoted to Centering Prayer and Fr. Thomas Keating, and faithful and dedicated to CONW as its longtime coordinator from the late 1990s into the 2000s. She was a unique, irreplaceable presence on this earth, and, like many of you, I am grateful that I had the privilege of knowing her.

Let us hold Barbara and her family in our prayers. Here are some prayers from the Book of Common Prayer, which was beloved of Barbara:

Father of all, we pray to you for our sister Barbara, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Barbara. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive her into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

And for all of us this prayer from John Henry Cardinal Newman:

O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows
lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is
hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done.
Then in thy mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest,
and peace at the last. Amen.

Many prayers and blessings for you and for our world in this year 2017,

cherry
