We here at Mahiti as part of our Convene programme just concluded a fruitful
Citizen Journalism and
New Media workshop in the northeast. We had our workshops in six destinations across five states. Our workshops reached people at Dimapur and Jhakama (Nagaland), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), Aizawl (Mizoram), Agartala (Tripura) and Shillong (Meghalaya). Except Dimapur and Shillong where we had one day workshops, every other workshop was for two days.
Through out the leg of the workshop the participants efficiently used our portable computer lab to explore the practicalities of citizen journalism and new media. Most significantly through the reflection of our experience with our community newspaper
MySME News (in Kolkata)
www.mysmenews.com , it was evident that even stringers could become citizen journalists - this was a boost to the workshops in the northeast.
Going as facilitators gained an opportunity to learn and comprehend citizen journalism and new media along with our participants. Definitely we learnt a lot more and look forward to applying this experience in the upcoming programmes in the rest South Asia.
Babul Gogoi an FST fellow helped us with local co-ordination and logistics. Special thanks to PANOS South-Asia for supporting us with travel and accomodation.
