Hi,

I would like to upgrade the current installation of control tier used
in my company. I don't know why, but the current installation of Ctier
has two instances, Jobcenter 0.7 listening on port 9090, and Workbench
3.1 listening at port 8080. I'm about to update it to Ctier 3.4.9, and
I was wondering if the procedure found at:

http://open.controltier.com/wiki/Upgrading

are the correct one to follow in order to do the upgrading right
considering the version numbers above.

thanks in advance,

marselan.

That procedure will not work-- it only works from going from an older to a newer 3.4 release.

If you are upgrading from 3.1 to 3.4 we recommend you do a fresh installation. Which modules have you been using? A lot of the modules have changed quite a bit and there may have to be changes made to your project to get everything working.

Finally, I decided to do a fresh installation. (3.4).

I haven't seen the definition of the objects in the current 3.1 yet
(another person defined those objects), and I'm not sure what modules
are, I guess that modules are related to model-driven approach, which
is not familiar for me. I'm familiar with the script-driver approach
only.

Anyway, I've installed a 3.4 server, and the web page of jobcenter and
workbench seem to work fine. The only thing I noticed is that, for
example, when I execute a command for adding a tag to the localhost,
such as:

ctl -p saw2 -m modelutil -c tag-add -- -type Node -name
localhost -tags ctier

i've got a:

egrep: can't open -q

The localhost is a SunOS 5.11 on an Intel processor

thanks,

Mariano

Hi Mariano,

Can you execute that command with a -v and paste the relevant output that contains the egrep line that it's executing? It sounds like we are assuming GNU grep and may need to tune the line (perhaps with a conditional) for Solaris grep.
