Set aside Thursday Feb. 23rd! This is a heads up about an upcoming
contra dance that we've put together because the planets are aligned
in some kind of propitious way:
Our friends, the O'Shraves, (Pat O'Gorman, Julie Schryer, Zach
Schryer- Lefebrve, Benoit Shryer-Lefevbre, and Aine O'Gorman) will be
passing through town from gigs in Quebec on their way to a gig in
Gravenhurst. They've wanted to play a contra dance in Toronto, and
we've been lucky enough to find a way to make it happen.
With them will be caller extraordinaire Dan Gorno, from Traverse City,
Michigan.
Here is the blurb from their website:
BRAND NEW SCOOP - ALGOMATRAD IN THE BIG SMOKE! – There will be an
AlgomaTrad dance in TORONTO, on Thursday, February 23, 7PM. at Christ
the Saviour Russian Orthodox Cathedral Church Hall, 823 Manning Ave,
Toronto, ON M6G 2W7. Yes, indeed folks, we are bringing the whole
thing south….THE O’SCHRAVES and your amazing caller DAN GORNO, will
be on hand for an evening of fun and frolic. The ROC Church Hall is a
wood-floored hall in the Annex, three blocks north of Bloor, four
blocks west of Bathurst. A 10-minute walk from the Bathurst subway
station. We’ll send you more info when we have it….The O’Schraves and
Dan are on a little road trip that is taking them to perform in Quebec
the weekend prior. Then on Friday the 24th they head up to
Gravenhurst to play a couple of nights for the Gravenhurst Winter
Carnival, with Shane Cook and Brian Pickell.
AlgomaTrad is the organization that Pat and Julie run near Sault Ste.
Marie, Ontario. It's a wonderful family camp for traditional music.
We're expecting a number of local musicians will sit in as well.
Dance starts at 7:30PM.
More info to come.
