to Contra Indications of Des Moines

I will not be dancing for a while (if ever) as my broken ankle is still recuperating. Because of this I want to make sure there are no loose ends or concerns about the transition to the Contra group now organized by Reid Miller.  I have supplied Reid with the email addresses for this list, but I presume most of you who have any interest in Contra dancing have already signed up at https://sites.google.com/site/desmoinescontradance/home the new list.

The left over funds which are in a Contra-Indications account are safe and looking for the right opportunity to be invested in the Contra Dance community. As I have said before this money was  generously donated in small contributions by fellow dancers and if anyone wishes to have their contribution back please let me know.

Some of the funds were used to help Reid establish a new domain name and were offered to help setup other technology.  My goal has been to find a place for the funds that will not benefit a select few for a short period, but to use the funds to help establish an on going Contra dance in Des Moines.

I would like to suggest those that have interest on voicing an opinion or suggestion on how the money be spent could get together in person or electronically to come up with a plan. We have $591.72.

Some suggestions of mine include:

1.       Paying for a dance with a non-local caller and band (maybe include some refreshments).  Reid does a good job, but variety is the spice of life.

2.       Paying for a space like the Social Club for a dance (there were 40 dancers at the last dance held at the SC)

3.       Paying for CDSS membership for the new group.

4.       Donating the money to a group like CDSS

5.       Saving it for a rainy day when contra dancing in the area  needs a “kick start”

6.       Distributing as a donation to the existing groups in the area (including DSM, Ames, Newton).

7.       Pay for some advertising or elevated Facebook posting for a dance

8.       Providing matching funds to a state program.

9.       Others suggestions

Can we find a time to have coffee together (this is my preference)?  Would people like to email suggestions? Please respond if you want to have any input about how to use the remaining funds or when to meet or just say hello using the discussion feature of google groups. Also feel free to respond to me directly to wi...@contra-indications.org

Steve.
