OLD-TIME MUSIC AND DANCE JAM WORKSHOP

Join Flying Pig Fiddle & Banjo for an exuberant music and dance jam in the living tradition of southern Appalachian Old-time music played by ear. We've been picking up the pace the last few months and whenever there are enough willing among musicians and audience we've been calling dances. Bring your fiddle, 5-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, dancing shoes, or home made/found rhythm instruments. Help us make this ground zero for the return of old-time barn dance to Des Moines.
Instruction by Dave Losure and Mary Schaeffer-Losure will be given according to participant interest:
— Learning tunes and playing nice with others.
— Building, finding and playing instruments of rhythm such as washtub bass, washboard, fiddlesticks, pitchfork, limberjack, mouthbow and more.
— Old-time clogging.
— Southern old-time square dance
All ages are welcome. Acoustic stringed instrument players will need basic playing skills, ability to tune the instrument. Experience the freedom of paperless music. Curiosity, enthusiasm and inclination toward silliness and high spirits encouraged!
Audio recording devices are permitted.
Admission $7, musicians and audience.
