Make sure your are using the latest version of Yawcam. I'm at 0.6.2. At one point the options in yawcam only showed javacript or java applet. For some reason magically it later also showed mjpg. It worked for a while selecting the javascript, too. but I prefer the mjpg.
Some cameras don't stream in mjpg. I found docs that show that mine doesn't, but it is working. Go figure.

i have octoprint on an ASUS laptop and want to use the built in webcam. i installed yawcam as instructed in "setting up on windows" guide, leaving everything default and turned on streaming and http.
i forwarded the ports in router. for , it is the internal/local IP (eg 192.168...)
i turned off webcam control for bitdefender.
in octoprint, when i put in "http://:8081/video.mjpg" for streaming and "http://:8888/out.jpg" for snapshot/timelapse, the snapshot test will take a picture from camera, but the stream is not recognized. i have tried removing the "video.mjpg" from the address. this still does not work, but in the "control" window black screen where video should be, if i click on the "http://:8081/" link, a browser window opens with the camera showing. (if i click on "http://:8081/video.mjpg", the browser gives a 404 error and no camera shows).
when i test yawcam connection from the yawcam app, both ports show "OK".
there is a post (OctoPrint in Docker, snapshot works, stream doesn't) very similar to my problem except mine is on a windows pc.
i just installed for first time and have latest versions of everything (1.8.6)
octoprint-systeminfo-20221118154830.zip (31.5 KB)

NOTE PROBLEM SOLVED: turns out that yawcam has a setting in the "output --> stream" section where you switch between "java" and "mjpg". it defaults to "java" but that setting is not mentioned in the guide. changing it to "mjpg" fixes the problem.

I'm trying to set up yawcam (ip camera software) to watch my 3D printer from outside of my network. I did the necessary port-forwarding, disabled my firewall, and successfully connected to the camera from outside of my network. The problem is that, after re-enabling my firewall, the connection is blocked (or not specifically allowed). I have tried allowing the program through the firewall by the program path, as well as by port and neither has worked. I know for a fact that the issue is with my firewall, I just can't find what. Ideas?

  • Follow these instructions to create the failure detection BAT file, making sure to edit the batch file to specify the HTTP port (usually 8888).We have called our batch file check-yawcam.bat and placed it in our Yawcam installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Yawcam).

Yawcam - short for yawcam - is short for, well, that and it's what it's called;-) Windows based web cams are rather popular these days, more so since Microsoft has announced plans to get them into the operating system. For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, a web cam is basically a piece of hardware that projects an image directly onto your computer screen. Web cams are available in two different types: hardware based and software based. The hardware-based cam does not require any software to run, while the software based one needs to have some sort of software installed on the computer in order to operate. The Yawcam Windows based cam will be different, because it doesn't need any software to run - just the normal Windows installation.
