The 12th Annual Masters of the Pros 185 not only flaunts a $15,000 payday for the winner, but also boasts a minimum $1,200 to start the field. Drivers and teams will also be greeted by a laundry list of continued updates and improvements at the Owosso Speedway facility including but not limited to more parking, additional seating, redesigned infield and pit road, and more.
The inaugural Masters of the Pros event was held at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Missouri in May of 2013. The event remained there for four more years until it moved to Birch Run Speedway in Michigan in June of 2018. Memphis International Raceway host the race in 2019 before the Masters began a three year run (2020-2022) at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
More details about the 12th Annual Masters of the Pros will be announced in the coming months. Additional details regarding the 2024 schedule for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance will be announced in the coming weeks. The 2023 season awards will be handed out at the annual awards ceremony on Friday, January 5th.
ASIC was concerned that the Cash Loan Money Centres and Sunshine Loans were using business models which deliberately attempt to avoid the protections for consumers contained in the small amount lending provisions in the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (National Credit Act).
Consumers who approached a Cash Loan Money Centre for a payday loan were signed up to an arrangement where the consumer 'sold' a household item such as a washing machine or fridge to the business, in return for a sum of money, and simultaneously 'leased' the goods back from the business. In practice, the goods never changed hands, and the business never actually saw the household goods, or confirmed the current market value before 'purchasing' them from the consumer.
Similarly, under the model used by Sunshine Loans, a consumer would approach the business for a payday loan, and enter into an agreement to assign the rights to use their mobile phone or car to the lender for a fee, and then simultaneously lease the rights back.
ASIC was primarily concerned that, in both cases, consumers were charged considerably more than the amount allowed under the legislative cap on costs for payday loans. In one example, a consumer received $1,000 and repaid a total of $1,682.10, when the statutory maximum the consumer would have repaid for a small amount loan of the same amount was $1,280.
Before July 2013, some states and territories had laws capping the cost of credit for small amount loans. These laws were replaced by the national cap which was introduced in July last year and is regulated by ASIC.
A small amount loan, in general terms, is a loan where the amount borrowed is $2,000 or less and the term is between 16 days and one year. From 1 July 2013, only the following fees can be charged on small amount loans:
Providers of small amount loans are also subject to enhanced responsible lending obligations, including providing a warning statement to the consumer which contains information about the alternatives to a payday loan.
The credit licensees who agreed to stop offering the sale and leaseback arrangements are Sunshine Loan Centres Pty Ltd and the following companies which operated under a model promoted by Courthouse Holdings Pty Ltd (trading as Cash Loan Money Centres):
There have existed provisions in California law that has entitled production companies to pay a dismissed employee on their next regular pay cycle, rather than on their last day of work, as is required by California law. But the state act that provided the exception for film production employees - never specifically mentioned print photographers, which has been a big pain for print photographers.
Existing law subjects employers to various requirements related to the payment of wages. Existing law generally requires that if an employer discharges an employee, the wages earned and unpaid at the time of discharge are due and payable immediately. Existing law establishes specific provisions that entitle an employee engaged in the production or broadcasting of motion pictures, as defined, whose employment terminates, to receive payment of the wages earned and unpaid at the time of the termination by the next regular payday, as defined. Existing law establishes penalties for certain violations relating to payment in accordance with these specific provisions.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
203.0 (a) If an employer willfully fails to pay, without abatement or reduction, in accordance with Sections 201, 201.3, 201.5, 201.6, 201.9, 202, and 205.5, any wages of an employee who is discharged or who quits, the wages of the employee shall continue as a penalty from the due date thereof at the same rate until paid or until an action therefor is commenced; but the wages shall not continue for more than 30 days. An employee who secretes or absents themself to avoid payment to the employee, or who refuses to receive the payment when fully tendered to them, including any penalty then accrued under this section, is not entitled to any benefit under this section for the time during which the employee so avoids payment. (b) Suit may be filed for these penalties at any time before the expiration of the statute of limitations on an action for the wages from which the penalties arise.
203.1. If an employer pays an employee in the regular course of employment or in accordance with Section 201, 201.3, 201.5, 201.6, 201.7, or 202 any wages or fringe benefits, or both, by check, draft or voucher, which check, draft or voucher is subsequently refused payment because the employer or maker has no account with the bank, institution, or person on which the instrument is drawn, or has insufficient funds in the account upon which the instrument is drawn at the time of its presentation, so long as the same is presented within 30 days of receipt by the employee of the check, draft or voucher, those wages or fringe benefits, or both, shall continue as a penalty from the due date thereof at the same rate until paid or until an action therefor is commenced. However, those wages and fringe benefits shall not continue for more than 30 days and this penalty shall not apply if the employer can establish to the satisfaction of the Labor Commissioner or an appropriate court of law that the violation of this section was unintentional. This penalty also shall not apply in any case in which an employee recovers the service charge authorized by Section 1719 of the Civil Code in an action brought by the employee thereunder.

With perfect weather on hand and fall like temperatures in the air, the annual September Sweep at Eriez Speedway concluded on Saturday night and seemed to feed off the excitement of the previous night. Less than 24 hours earlier, Dave Hess Jr. brought fans to their feet with a dramatic last corner pass for the win over Chub Frank in ULMS Late Model action. Hess was poised to take home a six thousand dollar pay day plus a two thousand dollar bonus if he could deliver the goods on Saturday night, but Jared Miley had other ideas and bested the stout field of competition on hand en route to victory lane.
In UEMS Modified action, Rich Michael Jr. appeared to check out to the easy victory but narrowly escaped a furious charge from Joel Watson to take the victory and increase his series points lead while in the RUSH Late Models, track champion Jason Genco won a thrilling battle with Max Blair that came down to mere hundredths of a second at the line. In Street Stock action Brandon Grotters put the field behind him quickly to collect the $1,500 pay day and John Zeleznik wired the field in the 15 lap Challenger main event.
Charles Powell Jr. and Boom Briggs brought the field to the green flag and in the early going, it was Briggs who jumped out to the early lead. Briggs gained some early separation from the chase pack, consisting of Powell, Greg Oakes, Chub Frank and Max Blair with Miley lurking behind them. While Briggs was setting the pace up front, Oakes made his way underneath Powell to take the second spot with seven laps in the books while Miley and Blair started an intense battle for the fifth position.
But behind all of that was one Dave Hess who started 13th on the grid and was getting through the field like a banshee as Miley made his way around Blair for fifth, overtaking on the outside. Miley and the outside lane worked like a charm through the middle portion of the race as he made his way around Chub Frank for third on lap 19 while Hess took two for the price of one on lap 16, getting around both Powell and Max Blair to join the front runners.
By lap 20, it was clear the race was coming down to a two car showdown between Hess and Miley as the latter went around Briggs for the lead while Hess moved to third on lap 23. With Miley getting into thick lapped traffic, and Hess making his way to the second spot, the tension ramped up, and at first, it appeared that Hess would be able to hunt and battle Miley for the victory. However, Miley very calmly picked through lapped traffic without missing a beat while Hess found himself stuck behind two lapped cars that took too many laps to get around.
As the laps wound down, Miley stretched his advantage to a straightaway over Hess and he cruised to victory lane while Chub Frank made one final pass around Briggs for third in the waning moments. But the night belonged to Miley who was the class of the field on this night.
Michael got around the back markers as best he could, while Watson gained ground at a furious pace, trying desperately get back into a position to battle for the lead, as the white flag waved, Watson found himself within a second of, erasing a huge advantage, but simply ran out of laps in the end as Michael crossed the line first claiming the $2,000 check and increasing his lead in the point standings in the process.
