Thedifference is the same as here in Sweden (usually). However due to the fact that it does not get completely dark here in Sweden during summers, a Shi'i mosque in Stockholm which makes timetables for many cities here applies a "12hr & 30 min after Duhr" rule to determine fajr which gives us a really early time (around 1:30am) while Sunnis have theirs at 2.25am. A local Shi'i mosque not far from here have determined that Fajr is at 2am (they don't use the 12h30min rule). Things are really complicated here, so I am currently having Imsak at the earlier time and I just pray at Sunni's later fajr time as a precaution.

The start of Nautical Twilight is the beginning of Fajr. Irrelevant of what timetable certain mosques use. Read this book by Sayyid Rizvi: -islam.org/articles/al-fajr-sadiq-new-perspective-sayyid-muhammad-rizvi

This isn't true (even according to the link - I have read through it carefully multiple times and the Sayed doesn't say that. He actually says that a super-ihtiyat would be to have imsaak at astronomical twilight i.e. -18 degrees and pray at nautical)

There was some research from the time of S. Muhsin al Hakim iirc about a hard and fast rule about calculations for fajr but it didn't work all the time. There is no such rule, although useful methods have been and are being developed.

I have asked 2 well qualified scholars (Sh. Bahmanpour and Sh. Haneef) what to do in the case of 2 timetables being slightly different. The response was that I can follow just one of the 2 timetables which I trust more for both prayer and beginning the fast, and there is no need for ihtiyat between the 2 timetables.

Yes brother but I was more thinking about defining what Fajr is. For example, both Shias & Sunni pray at Maghreb but the majority of Shias are of the view that Maghreb is when the redness disappear from the eastern sky while Sunnis and some Shias as well are of the view that Maghreb is at Sunset. The reason why I was wondering is because I've heard that Fajr depends on the sun's angle from the horizon and that kind of stuff, also since there are different stages of dawn, I wanted to make sure that we are of the same view when it comes to Fajr. Generally here in Sweden, there is a 10-15 min difference between the Shia/Sunni time for Fajr, but that difference could be due to other reasons.

ya imsak is the time you stop eating i.e. begin your fast. the imsak is usually 5 mins or so before fajr time. i dont know the significane really, but i guess its better to steer on the safe side now that u noe.

apparantly you're allowed to eat until fajr but it's recommended that you stop at imsak because the actual moment of the rising of the sun is not 100% certain, and before imsak you're definitely safe, while that period between imsak and fajr, you are on the border, although it is allowed to eat then.

A Fasting Muslim is allowed to eat between the hours of Maghrib and Fajr, Imsak is several minutes (exact amount varies but is between 5 to 20 minutes usually) before Fajr, this is the time advised to start the Fast to be cautious. To stop consuming at Imsak is optional but preferred especially if one wants to be sure about their Ebaadah.

I personally stop eating and drinking at Imsak, then till Fajr I have those several minutes to brush my teeth and start preparing for Salaah. Then should any water be accidently swallowed or I have any doubts then atleast it is before Fajr itself.

but how owuld u know when is imsak and wat is the itme for imsak....those calenders from imam bargahs i have it says tulou-e-aftab and tulou-e-fajr now which one is imsak there and it has momre then 40 mins difference between......help someone

'tuluo e aftab' is sunrise. However the time for fajr is at dawn the first light of the day a.k.a 'tulou-e-fajr'. time of imsak is basically , like everone said, a precaution of 10-20 mins. So just stop eating atleast 10 mins before the time given for 'tulou-e-fajr'.

waiting about two minutes after maghrib is ok, but still not necessary. the time of fazilat for reading maghrib is reading it ON time so it would be better to not delay it for so long. a good way to pass a few minutes would be to recite the adhaan and iqamat.

1583. If while eating and drinking, a person realises that it is Fajr, he should throw the food out of his mouth, and if he swallows it intentionally, his fast is void, and according to the rules which will be mentioned later, it also becomes obligatory on him to give Kaffarah.

Hey. I live in abroad this year and just found I just found that there are times for Imsak and time for Fajr. Locate your city and you get the appropriate time in that website. For caution as it is written consider +3 for time.

hi, I am new in this but .. you find the times for Sohor and Iftar they are before Fajr and after Maghreb ... so Sohor is the time imsak meaning the time to stop eating and Iftar is the time to stop fasting and you can start to eat ;)

Also, I am developing a website that calculates Ramadan timings perfectly. I will be happy if you guys could pass maximum information about how ramadan timings differ in various regions according to belief.

Im sick of missing fajr some mornings i feel every time i miss it i have a bad day or i have bad luck, i dont miss it on purpose, i try to pray it, I hope im not being punished for it. I dont mean to miss it, what do you guys think!

InshaAllah, you are praying your missed prayers qadha... I don't really think someone can tell you how to start waking up for fajr. It is a matter of will power and coming to grips with WHO you are "missing" when you miss your fajr namaz. In addition, keep in mind that when you pray (in my experience) you feel good all day. However, if you do happen to miss fajr namaz (again in my experience) you feel guilty all day and like you stated you feel as though you have a bad day.

Just a note, if you don't wake up without prior planning or because you forgot to set your alarm or someone didn't wake, you are not at fault. However, if you set your alarm and when it rings you turn it off and return to sleeping, there is a theological issue with that.

Also I suffered this problem recently and I felt I had a bad day aswell the day I didn't prey I used to wait longer for the busses to arrive. Until I started changeling my sleeping pattern. Go sleep earlier, trust me I sleep at 8-9 now b4 I used to 12 or 1 so I have. Long sleep till Fajr also it helped when ur alarm is the adhan. And make it loud

i think missing salat al fajr is a bad thing because all our prayers are always important, i set an alarm and wake up just for 5 minutes and pray to Allah and i also pray salat layl every day about 2 hours before salat fajr which gives me more zakat, my point is if you are not missing it on purpose and just cant wake up, you will have to figure out a way to wake up and pray 5 minutes to Allah, i once prayed in the middle of the desert when i was travelling by car from kuwait to bahrain, i was 2 hours away from bahrain and i was so tired, i stopped the car in the middle of the desert to pray salat al fair. MAY GOD GUIDE US ALL

I always miss Fajr, even though I set 3 different alarms on my phone and I put it far away from my bed so I have to get out of bed to turn off the alarm. Even then, I end up getting out of bed and turning off my alarm, then falling asleep again. :(

I do the same and works for me. If i do not get up, my parents will consistently say salah, salah, salah until i get up. I put thoughts to kill shaytan and go seek Allah swt. The first few days will be tough but after it will be easy to get up. :)
