Ireally don't get the logic behind it anymore, it seems like I'm constantly fighting the ranging and find myself having to aim so low that I can't even see the ship I'm shooting at when I'm zoomed in, I score more points than my team so I assume they are equally confused by this aiming system?

Do I need to set keybinds or do something else to have it make sense? Do I need to disable the auto ranging as I don't even get to pay attention to other ships as I constantly am re-adjusting my ranging to not suddenly be 1km too far and it's the least bit of fun.

In the old system I felt like I had control, react to the movements of the enemy ship, now I just feel like I'm fighting the mechanics trying to take control away from me and not wanting me to have control over it.

Well, you're supposed to manually adjust it from time to time. If you mean the green bar that says "measuring range", that's a lie, they just took that placeholder graphics from the tank rangefinder. It's actually a timer for the refresh of the horizontal lead, the little chevron indicator.

I've never even noticed that chevron and that sounds completely counter intuitive that's it's ranging but not actually ranging what you would logically assume it to be.. I'm so tired of naval already when the level of incompetence is this obvious from playing just a few games with this system.

Cursor makes a lot more sense to me though, but it just constantly seems to change the numbers and I need to aim way too far down to remove 0.10km from my ranging.. If I want to shoot in front of the target I just want to aim down a little and vice versa, I don't understand why I need to aim 5km below the target to shoot 50 meter in front of it and then I look away for a second and it's changed.

Two tips for the "aiming down" issue. First, it's not like aiming in a tank or FPS game; pulling down (or up) doesn't move the aim point by that amount, it's more of a constant input, somewhat like controlling a plane. I can't your exact technique obviously, but try to be less... aggressive, for lack of a better term; just pull down lightly and hold that. I suppose this is easier for me on a controller (can't run out of mousepad) so using the scrollwheel to correct is an option too (though can be awkward in other ways).

Second, selecting a new target resets the range, so if you've ended up aiming really low like your example here, just quickly spam the target lock button at anyone else on the enemy team, then back onto the one you're currently shooting. This will put its current distance at 0 degrees of elevation, as it were. This is my main method for fixing it.

2) Keep the two numbers you see in sync with scroll wheel, adjusting a little for relative approach speed. Trying to aim vertically with the thumbtack will inevitably lead to the behavior you're describing.

And yes, it's bugged so every time you switch from binos and back it adds some elevation. They'll fix it some day. Much easier to cope with though if all you're doing when that happens is bringing the horizontal line back onto the waterline, checking your two numbers, and ignoring the thumbtack.

Not seeing any options to change colors or anything either, which is kinda questionable with how the visibility is kinda poor and using a green in a blue area for some reason, I imagine colorblind people won't even have to bother.

When static the chevron points to exact mid of the ship, when moving its more of approximate mid. Also not to overshoot, you shoot slightly under the target as you can see target is 6.8 km,so i aim for 6.76 to hit waterline and have higher chance to explode magazines if i would aim under the turrets.

Bf 109s (without gunpods) typically hold almost every relevant performance advantage against their US adversaries, with the exception of top speed. US fighters are fast, but they are also heavy, so they have relatively poor climb rates and tend to lose energy in maneuvers quickly, which ultimately results in poorer turnfighting. If you are a 109 and you win the 6oc of an enemy US fighter, 9.5 times out of 10 it should be relatively easy to stick behind whoever you are engaging, especially if you start with an energy advantage, so long as you understand throttle control and don't let them force an overshoot.

Fw190s must be considered in two groups, the Fw190A's / -F8 (I will call these "Antons"), and the Fw190D's (I will call these "Doras"). The major difference between the two groups is that the Antons almost ubiquitously have very poor relative climb rate / acceleration, while the Doras are above average in this regard. This is important because, while all Fw190s have very poor turn performance, the Antons lose energy much more quickly than the Doras do, and struggle much more to regain it. I wouldn't turnfight anything in any of the Fws except as a last resort, in which case I think you should also come to terms with the fact that you've likely lost the fight. Even poor turning US fighters will give you trouble.

US fighters mostly use the Browning M2 .50 cal in arrangements of 3 guns / wing, or 4 guns / wing, with a few exceptions. This means, usually, convergence is important. You need to set your convergence to the range that you think you will most often shoot from. For me, I set my guns at 300m convergence, and almost always start shooting at enemies when they are 400m or closer. The "good" thing about US .50s is that they are waaaayyyyyy too powerful at long range. For starters, they have extreme accuracy with very little bullet drop, but their damage is also way over-the-top. You also should consider your ammo belt. In my opinion, Ground Target belts are ridiculously overpowered right now. Almost every attack I make with them results in instant disintegration of my target when in convergence, with a high chance of causing a fire outside of convergence. I prefer Stealth Belts, personally, because I feel dirty when I use Ground Target belts and I actually aim better without tracers to distract me, but even the Stealth Belt is considerably powerful.

German fighters also have extremely powerful armaments in their MG151 20mm cannons. Prior to my recent experience with the Ground Target belt in US .50s, I would have said the MG 151 was the most overperforming gun in the game. 109s with a single MG151, assuming average aim, can easily score >4 kills on one ammo load with a few dozen rounds to spare. I think the Air Target belt is universally considered the best belt because it has such a high number of HE mine shells. The only weakness of the MG 151 is that it's used in low numbers on 109s, which can make long range sniping difficult. In fighters like the Fw190s, which have anywhere from 2 - 4 cannons, or more with gunpods, this limitation is largely removed.

In general, if you're having issues with aiming, I would advise you just stick to one nation and don't fly anything else until you get the hang of how their guns work. I also recommend that you set different keybindings for primary and secondary armaments in fighters that have more than one caliber of gun (i.e. Germany). Only fire the 20mm cannons when you attack because the secondary 7mm and 13mm machine guns are relatively harmless, and can be very distracting. Firing both calibers at the same time can often create confusion, making you think your cannons aren't working because you keep scoring hits without realizing you're only hitting with the secondary armament. Finally, when learning to aim with any gun, always start firing ahead of where you think you need to, and then let the enemy fly into your spray. Eventually, you will get a better idea of how far you need to lead to be more accurate.

i was like "isn't this is a common knowledge already?" but then i remembered that CB is basically hidden away and requires $5 to be spent in the marketplace / store first to even have the ability set up your own lobby

me too but i managed to sell and buy stuff in marketplace. my friend also can't set up their own lobby (the create lobby button doesn't show up) and they never spent anything. but i feel like this has been removed or reduced over the years, idk for sure. off-topic anyway
