Well, this is a first. This is the very first time I've done a still life this large and over-sized. The strawberries are as big as Bella's head...:-). My goal was to do something different, something dramatic. So I thought, I do flowers larger then life size, why not strawberries? Per my usual modus operendie with the flowers, I do them smaller first and decide if this is something that would translate well to a larger then life size. I thought the strawberries, with the great stems and leaves breaking up the black background were great design elements. The crystal bowl was easier to do at that size, but still a puzzle, with all of the little reflective pieces. At 27.5" x 20.5" it was quite the feat. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think

This is one of the coolest projects I've been involved in.
Chris Beatty is the owner of a micro distillery in Corvallis, Oregon called Spiritopia, who produce Premium Artisian Liqueurs. In the beginning of the year he asked about usage of one of my paintings, "Pink Apple Blossoms" for the label of their new Apple Liqueur that they were developing. So a couple of weeks ago I received a shipment of the finished product...Spiritopia Apple Liqueur. It is so cool seeing the label in person. And, the liqueur is quite lovely. Just a sip of this luscious, warm brandy is full of apple-y deliciousness. (Each bottle has a half bushel of apples from the Pacific Northwest.) Yum!
Thank you, Chris for choosing my watercolor for this project. It was great working with you. And it was a lot of fun for me to see my watercolor used in a different form. (And it was a delight to taste the finished Apple Liqueur!)

This Saturday, August, 22 I will be showing my watercolors at the perfect location. At the gorgeous Wellfield Botanic Gardens in Elkhart, Indiana. There will be art booths, lots of delicious food booths from local restuarants & music. The hours are 11am - 6pm. The exact location is Wellfield Gardens, 1011 N Main St, Elkhart, IN.

This is the latest video on the For the Love of Watercolor forum. This is wonderful practice in getting those delicate values in a white flower. Getting that super smooth solid background. And of course, extra instruction on doing glass vases. Tips on making your glass sparkle!!

This is a photo of the very talented artists that attended my Still Life workshop this week. (Ann had to leave early, so is not pictured) Every one of their paintings was superb! I am proud of all of them. Besides being so skilled at watercolor, they were a really fun group to be with. It was a joy to teach them for two days. Thank you to everyone from near and far who attended. It means a lot to me that you were so happy with the workshop.
Plans for 2016 workshops have already begun, with a May workshop at Dillman's Art Workshop Retreat. Stay tuned for more details!

This is the Iris that we painted in my September Iris Workshop. Lots and lots of color. When we were doing the background we were very conscious of the best places to put the darks, to make the flower itself pop; and where to put some bold colors to make the leaves pop. It made for a beautiful compliment to this lovely flower.

I wanted to share this collage of some of the beautiful watercolors by the members of my forum,
The challenge was to paint this Fall Still Life in watercolor.
In order to make it more manageable and not overwhelming,
we completed it in 3 steps spread out over 1 & 1/2 months.
Step #1 was the background and the cloth.
Step #2 was the pumpkins and ghords.
Step #3 was the decorative corn.
Soon we'll embark on a winter still life in watercolor.

I wanted to take some time during this busy holiday season to thank everyone for following my blog and facebook page during the year. Thank you also for all the wonderful comments you leave. They are appreciated more then you know. I feel so blessed to have so many followers.
During the holidays I always like to spend some time reflecting on the past year and planning for the next. Deciding on my new goals for the brand new year. I hope one of your goals will be to join me in learning to paint realistic still lifes and florals in watercolor. There are three ways for you to learn my award winning, realistic watercolor style.
- The first is my online watercolor forum, For the Love of Watercolor. Here you can learn at your own pace while watching my videos on how to paint a variety of subjects in watercolor. There are 52 HD videos currently available with new releases every month, all for a low monthly fee.

We're doing a larger (8" x 12") still life on the forum, For the Love of Watercolor. "Watering Can & Tulips" This one is broken down into two videos to make it easier for all artists, even the beginners! Part ONE goes in-depth into doing the dark backgrounds, and rendering metal surfaces, in this case a watering can.
