I didn't know that up front, but I'm about 1/2 way through and it isn't a problem for me anymore. I had trouble getting used to it up-front, especially with the POV and jumping from one persons head to the next... you said it exactly, whoah! If I were to write a book in this format right now, it would never make it past the slush pile. Isn't that strange? One decade a Literary work of genious, the next decade, nothing...
I'm actually finding it interesting. I wonder if it has anything to do with the translation, since this was originally written in Portuguese? I would like to see the movie, I don't know when it comes out.

I picked this book up a couple of days ago, and just started reading
last night on the bus.
I gotta say... this one is going to be a bit of a challenge.
Did you realize when you picked this book that the author doesn't use
quote marks or paragraph breaks for dialogue?
It'll take some getting used to.
