Lately I have been reading a trilogy by Elizabeth Haydon containing the books ‘Rhapsody’, ‘Prophesy’, and ‘Destiny’ . I am on the last of the three books and have found the series to be pretty good. A little more “Romance” that I prefer, but still hard to put down.

I also re-read ‘Enders Game’; if for no other reason than to remind me why it is in my top 10 all time books. It always amazes me how much I forget of the details of some stories after 2-3 years. Perhaps I should pick 1-2 short books that are my all-time favorites and as my Alzheimers kicks in, I can get years of good reading for 10 bucks =)

My wife is pretty into the whole ‘Twilight’ series and movies (first out on DVD, and second coming to theaters soon). She is really enjoying them. My wife can completely relate to why this series came highly recommended by Angela S. She has since bought the sound-track to the movie, and has re-watched the DVD about 4 times, including the time she got me to watch it with her.

Speaking of movies, I really enjoyed Star Trek (2009). They should have used Chris Pine to play Darth Vader instead of Hayden “I-want-my-mommy” Christensen.

I am looking forward to a couple upcoming movies:

11/13 - 2012 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190080/ - http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/2012/

8/7 - GI Joe: Rise of Cobra - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1046173/ - http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/gijoeriseofcobra/

7/17 - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417741/ - http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/harrypotterandthehalf-bloodprince/

6/26 - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - http://www.transformersmovie.com/

May 2010 – Iron Man 2 (Trailer from Iron Man for those who live in Ice Caves =) http://ironmanmovie.marvel.com/

Interesting choices Dave. With the summer here I am strangely finding more, rather than less time to read. I have picked up a few old books with my boys and we are enjoying them (Magician apprentice and Magician master, Rift War saga; Darksword Trilogy; and even Of Mice and Men). I am amazed how insightful my boys can be and what about their lives they share when a book brings the thoughts to them. I am learning more about my boys than about the books.

Just a few thoughts.

I have thought about reading those books before, but after talking to a girl here at work who read them, I think I might have changed my mind. She was telling me about the series and some of the characters, and mentioned the romance side to the story and I think that is what keeps me from reading them. But, it sounds like it has good characters!

I'm currently reading a few series,
The Night Angel series by Brent Weeks: The story and characters are very good. There is some four letter explanitives, but I typically overlook most of that. But for some it may not be palpitable. This setting is more Terry Goodkind/ Robert Jordan-like. But more rough and dirty. The Books are as follows: The Way Of The Shaow, Shadow's Edge, Beyond The Shadows. The main character is an assassin. I'm halfway through the last book, and it is very good!

The Godless World series  by Brian Ruckley: This one is very George RR Martin'ish. It's very good. It's a battle of warring clans and races.
The books are as follows: Winterbirth, Bloodheir, The Fall Of Thanes. I've read the first two and will be starting the last one soon.

The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie: I'm not sure if I can compare this one to any other particular series. I've only read the first book so far but it is becoming quite a good read. This one has a "religious" faction and a ruling faction that aren't always together, along with a magus faction, it makes for a pretty good setting. Of course, this has a grizzled veteran "hero" to keep things moving.
The books are as follows: The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, The Last Argument Of Kings.

And Last but not Least is the Fire Of Heaven Series by Russell Kirkpatrick: This one is very Tolkeinesque. It is long and descriptive. But it has some good action scenes too. I've only read the first book in the series, but I will be continuing the series very soon. If you like Tolkein, you will most likely enjoy this one.
The Books are as follows: Across The Face Of The World, In The Earth Abides The Flame, The Right Hand Of God.

I also just finished 'Coraline' by Neil Gaiman. That was a good little story. I'm becoming a Gaiman fan.

Now I'm just awaiting the next Wheel of time book. Brandon Sanderson is finishing the series. I think they will be some of the best books in the series. I'm definately a Sanderson fan. Great writer.

Dave, those movies are also all on my summer list.

I must speak to the Stephanie Meyers books.  When I recommended these books, I was in the third book of the four part series.  I very much enjoyed the story and looked forward to finishing the series.  My enjoyment came to an abrupt and rather disgruntled end with the fourth “book”.  Stephanie Meyers is a gutless wonder who cannot allow her characters to experience consequence in even the smallest measure.  As I read the fourth book, my enjoyment of the series dissolved.  There were portions of the book that made me so angry that I actually threw the book across the room.

I do not recommend these books anymore.  If you do decide to read them, stop with the third book and make up your own ending to the story.

I just finished "Wyrd Sisters" by Terri Prachett, and was totally delighted with it.
Now I'm reading "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke, so far it's pretty good.
