The tl;dr is that NVMe devices have configuration options that can be queried
using nvme get-feature --human-readable /dev/nvmeX. One of these standard
options is one to set maximum temperatures at which point you really would
rather have the SSD throttle down than keep getting hotter. Not every SSD has a
reasonable default for this. If your SSD is not cooled very well, like e.g. in a
laptop, you may want to set your own values for this.

Of course using this throttling means that performance will degrade if the
limits are hit. Personally I prefer this versus potential premature hardware
failure and a 90+ degree hot SSD very few centimeters away from a lithium ion
battery. Because you totally can hit temperatures like that when you really tax
the SSD, for example when doing a BTRFS scrub.

I think that the cooling solution is actually pretty standard for this form factor. The M.2 seem pretty separated from the CPU/iGPU that have active cooling through one fan. The SSD temperate does not seem affected during compile jobs, for example. Separate active cooling for the M.2 in a 13 inch design is unlikely to be feasible. Maybe a small heatsink could be possible that could be attached to the top or bottom case but that makes repair and access a bit more difficult, so idk.

please just use the flash_l4t_external.xml for the partition layout, and leaving num_sectors unchanged as it will be detected by flashing scripts during flashing.
Also, do you really need -S 800GiB? The size of the APP partition is configurable upon first boot in the OEM config.

have you check the developer guide?
-to-flash-an-encrypted-rootfs-to-an-external-storage-device
You need to use flash_l4t_nvme_rootfs_enc.xml as the partition layout file to enable disk encryption.

Hello everyone
Im looking to figure out which one to choose
Buying an internal nvme with an enclosure to use it as external everyday use (for programs, games, one backup of photos etc)
Vs buy a samsung t7 or sandisk extreme external

Even as the USB spec catches up to bandwidth numbers offered by PCIe, you still must take into account latency. Depending on your use case, disk access latency might be big enough factor to sway the decision. You mentioned running applications - this is something that will be more sensitive to latency.

Just to give out a background
I use external HDDs to backup snd keep data
I also have external nvme thet i run games on even have windows installed on it in case it is necessary and im happy with it
So now i wanna add more capacity so i get my photos and games more accessible to my macs and laptops

Buying a nvme +external enclosure is cheaper and i feel it may be more reliable if something happens to enclosure to just put it in a new one or in a pc ti get dara out
Do you agree or should i stick with a new external drive

So I figured out the dual enclosure has separate usb connection so it defeated the purpose
So I went ahead and ordered
A $18 pcie 3.2gen 2 enclosure
And a samsung 980pro 2TB
Reviews mentioned it has Dram and it was more expensive than crucial and intel 670 and afew oyher brands
After that i saw a crucial external for same price but im goanna stick with my choice
Hopefully when it gets here i can confirm the Dram
And in general tried to avoid non known brands for safety

NVMe/TCP preview support for Windows Server v.next was announced during MSFT Ignite a couple of weeks ago. Should it already be inside the current build? If so, I can't find anything in the registry to activate the feature.

@janecpav @JakeSteele
I represent the team at Microsoft working on the NVMe-oF support which is currently under development. As we continue to develop this feature, I would love to hear more about your interest and the feature scenarios important to you. Please reach out to me at 'nvmeof...@microsoft.com' and I can share more information with you.

Cheers,

Have my first issue with my very first build after using computers and remembering the days before the interweb. I intended to be ambitious and to maybe over build with some headroom for future upgrades. Whatever I own I do try to ensure I get the best out of it and to that end I am bumping against installing Win10 after Raid 0 the two drives within the Bios. I have gone through the videos of trying to load bottom drivers then raid config but i still get get the windows setup to see them as raided drives. I need a detailed idiots guide rather than a detailed expert guide if that makes sense. Any help with videos or pdf's......at 43 I am feel it might be like teaching someone to use a spoon. Will continue my own searching and googling as there must be something I am missing.

3.Enter the Raidxpert2 menu in BIOS, you need to initialise (writes some data to the drives to prepare them for Raid) all hard drives that will be used for Raid. This option will be in the Raidxpert2 menu, so check all options.

I try raid 0. In bios I'm creating raid, and at first glance everything is fine (I can add screenshots from the BIOS). Then I made a bootable USB flash drive and added drivers there. During installation, I add 3 drivers sequentially from the DD folder, they are installed, but still two nvme disks are displayed.

Strange thing. tried again from the beginning. In the BIOS, I left SATA in AHCI mode (before that stood in raid), and nvme as raid. I got to the driver installation and this time I could not install anything from the nvme_did folder, the list was empty, like "incompatible with my equipment". But from the nvme_cc folder (for a different processor) - success, and one disk appeared! While everything seems to be established and working, I observe.

I used the NVMe_DID drivers, browsing to and then installing rcBootom, RCRaid, and RCfg in that order. It made no difference - after installing all three drivers and doing a refresh, the Windows installer still sees two separate NVM drives and can't install.

However, from reading AMD NVMe/SATA RAID Quick Start Guide for Windows Operating Systems I've seen that this can happen when the system has multiple controllers, so no problem - I choose the first one.

Yes, drivers will be provided and added to that page when they become available. For now you can use the previous drivers for Windows 11. I am using them on my Windows 11 installation with 2 drives in Raid 1 configuration.

I have some older C240 M3 servers that we are looking to repurpose for lab gear. I've been trying to research the spec sheet here, and it shows that the server has 5 PCIE 3 slots, 3 of which are x8 speed (of different heights). We are looking to use these servers for VMWARE virtualization to test out topologies and things before deploying them to customer networks.

So my question is are NVME SSDs even supported in these servers? I don't see any M.2 slots here. I've been looking at these pcie 3 m.2 adapters from Amazon as I have not found any Cisco parts for this. Is there an official Cisco page I am missing?

Furthermore, if any drives are supported, which ones are they? Looking at "server-grade" SSDs, well they are just wayyyyy to expensive for lab based usage. Although we'd like to stick with official Cisco parts as we are a gold partner and can probably get some decent pricing if needed. I'd love to be able to try the 970 evo plus nvme ssd as it seems to have a good price/performance ratio from that benchmark. Again, I'd prefer to stick to Cisco parts if possible I just can't seem to find any!

The NVMe testing service offers conformance and interoperability testing across various OS, drivers, and hardware platforms as well as PCIe SSD and PCIe Servers. Testing here helps products qualify for the NVMe Integrator's List.
