Iknow this is a banshee forum and i apologize but i couldnt find this info anywhere, does anyone on here know the torque specs of a yamaha blaster head and cylinder nuts? any info woulod be appreciated, like i stated above i have searched eveywhere and i just cant find them.
To tighten down the cylinder you're gonna need a wrench adapter for the torque wrench in order to get in there. Motion Pro sells it. It is impossible to get a normal torque wrench and socket in there. Then because it adds length you have to recalculate the ft lbs.
So here is the deal, I currently own a warrior. It's is a very solid and reliable machine and it's fun on the trails. However, it is a bit heavy and sluggish too. I can sell it and get a blaster. This route would most likely leave me money left over to mod the blaster. I have been told the the fun factor on the blaster is through the roof, which, at its core, is why we all ride. I also like that its lightweight. I have been told that the warrior will outrun the blaster in stock form but with minimal mods the blaster can outrun 400ex's. So how much mods would it take to get a blaster to a desirable power level. So my overall question is do you guys think I should trade? Thnx in advance.
I've rode every machine you mentioned and spent a considerable amount of time on a 400 ex. Please don't take offense but I found the warrior to be too sluggish to be as much fun as it should be. Blasters are quick and I think they are faster than a 400 ex in stock trim. I have no idea what mods will really make a considerable difference to a blaster. Being air cooled I would be scared to mod too far anyway. I know you can pick up a 660 raptor for 1700 ish and have a decent bike on your hands. They are heavy but all the power you could ever want especially coming from a warrior. With that being said If you can swing the purchase of a yfz450 you get power, light and very modifiable. The 450 doesn't have reverse as the raptor does but I believe the 450 is truly more reliable. That's what I recommend. Hope that helps some
Thnx for the reply. And no offense taken, I know they are sluggish. I used to own a z400 and it was a blast when it ran right. Not the most reliable but that could of been due to the previous owner. If I were to get a raptor I don't think I would want a 660 however I would jump on a 700 if I could afford it. I have seen many blasters and a couple yfz's in my 1500ish price range. I have heard 450's are rough on tight trails, is that true? Oh and I have seen a few for around 1500, does that seem too low for a 450. I was always weary of them having a hidden problem. I don't know, a lot of horror stories about 450's. Could you feel me in on the good and bad of the 450's pls do. Oh and have you ridden the raptor 350's. Shaved a lot of weight off compared to the warrior. How do they compare. Sorry I have a lot of questions it you are a great help...
Blasters are a hellova lot of fun. They're 2-strokes and lighter than any machine so far mentioned. Something I don't like about them is their size. At 215 lbs., I have a hard time fitting on the small frame very comfortably. As with every 2-stroke (besides the 'zilla), you won't get the same low power, but when you rev them high, they're fun as hell.
No way a 450 is more reliable than any of the other machines mentioned. High performance race engine with very high maintenance requirements. You could really save money and do a few mods to the warrior. A cam and good exhaust makes a huge difference. The blaster is fun to mess around on but too small for real trail/distance riding. I would get a raptor. Good ride for the money.
Raising the exhaust port 1mm, A better exhaust pipe (most expensive modification, less than $200) some air box mods and filling in the intake brought the power in the 40hp range making it a wild ride.
I am 5'11" and my son is 6'2" so we have our handlebar stem raised 3" and our swingarms lengthened. I am planning to lower the pegs 2" on my Blaster and I am building a Yamaha Blaster with a bored and stroked 240cc motor. I like the Blaster transmission and gearing. We upgraded the shocks for jumps and ride comfort. He widened his, I like narrow, ride it like a bike from the pegs. In spite of the brutal power delivery of the KTM SX engine, I take it on rugged off-road treks.
So, for lightness, economy of purchase, repair and operation, ease of modification, and easy power potential, I highly recommend the Blaster with the original Blaster motor. Think head mod and pipe and you will quickly be in the big leagues for power and speed. Good luck.
I have owned 2 Warriors, a Mojave, a Blaster, I just have the 660 now. The warrior was a great dependable bike I had a new 02 model I gave it hell for a year and a half with almost no maintenance ( about 3 hours a day) and the only problems I had in that time was a stripped front sprocket and a blown fuse. my only complaint was it had to much weight in the front to jump, I liked the blaster but even when I only weighed 100 lbs I felt it was to small same with the Mojave, they both was pretty fast for only a 250 and a 200, I used to beat most people with blasters on the warrior but 1 of my friends would beat me every time ( he was real light and really new how to drive) inever raced anything with the Mojave but I feel like it could run with the blaster and warrior no problem. I ddnt have the blaster or Mojave long so I cant say much about durability. I got the 660 pretty cheap at the time $2250 ( about 6 years ago) but it needed a little work, nothing major.... just maintenance really, I had a few bugs to work out but it has been bullet proof since ( and was a big jump in power compared to the others, was about 35.. should be right around 50hp with $400 in mods, intake exhaust, jetting)... I think a 400ex would be a good choice also. just thought I would add my .02
if it was me I wouldn't trade a warrior for a blaster, I think you would be better off to save up a lil money and sell the warrior to buy a 400ex or a 660, maybe a banshee if you want a 2 stroke... I just feel you would be disappointed in the blaster coming from a warrior... I know I would.
Did you know that our head modification adds 3-5 HP depending on supporting modifications. This works with bore up to 68.25 mm. Also works with stock stroke and 3 mm with spacer plate. Requires fresh high test fuel.

For being a 200cc it is very quick and it is decently reliable. The one problem I notice with blasters is they are really compact together and make them very easy to flip over. I have talked with many people who have owned or own a blaster as well and they all said them same thing. Overall not ... a terrible atv, just keep in mind the way the atv sits.
I recently bought a used blaster and have been enjoying every second of it. I was weary at first as this is my first atv and I assumed they were unreliable. I have had it for a short time now and it has not given me any mechanical problems. It has awesome torque. Soo fun.
Yamaha blasters are just the best bikes out there all my freinds have one and I often ride theirs and they just have so much power and torque and speed I always thaught blasters are slow untill I drove one and I was shocked I could not believe how great a blaster is If I had to rate it out of 10 ... I would give it a 10 just wish I had my own
