Dear Console-ing Passions community,
The Console-ing Passions Board is pleased to announce Effie Sapuridis (Western University, Canada) and Isabel Sykes (Brunel, University of London, UK) as the recipients of this year’s Jane Feuer travel grants to attend the 2025 Console-ing Passions Conference in Atlanta from June 27-29. Congratulations Effie and Isabel!
Effie Sapuridis (she/her) is a Media Studies Ph.D. candidate at Western University in Canada and will be defending her PhD dissertation in August 2025. Her research focuses on new media platforms, digital storytelling, feminist ethics of care, and data justice. Additionally, she is the Outreach and Communications Editor for Transformative Works and Cultures and the Reviews Editor for the Journal of Fandom Studies. At Console-ing Passions Effie will be presenting a co-authored paper (with Brittany Melton) titled "#Tradwife Trends: how influencers reproduce traditional gender roles on TikTok".
Isabel Sykes is a third-year Doctoral Researcher at Brunel, University of London. Her PhD project, which is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, examines media representations and lived experiences of working-class women's unpaid domestic labour. At Console-ing Passions Isabel will present a paper titled “'Clean' girls, tradwives, and stay-at-home girlfriends: the romanticisation of domestic labour on TikTok.”
Effie and Isabel will be presented with their cheques prior to Saturday’s keynote. Conference attendees are encouraged to attend and cheer them on!
Wishing everyone a fabulous 2025 conference!
