CP Orlando 2022!!

Dear Members of the Console-ing Passions Community,

 

We are excited to welcome you to Orlando for Console-ing Passions 2022 (Hashtag: #CPOrlando)! We represent a team of feminist media scholars at the University of Central Florida (UCF) coordinated by Mel Stanfill, whose research examines race, gender, and sexuality in fandom and media industries, and Anastasia Salter, a researcher in games and electronic literature. We are hosting in collaboration with a number of units and departments at UCF including the Texts & Technology doctoral program; the Women’s and Gender Studies program; the College of Arts and Humanities; the Department of English; and the Center for Humanities and Digital Research.

Orlando is known worldwide for its theme parks and attractions, and we hope those of you joining us in person will take advantage of its media fandom hub. Universal Studios and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios have both reopened, with new attractions opening in late 2021 for the upcoming Disney World anniversary.  In addition to these places of general interest to media scholars, Orlando boasts regionally known gems, such as the woman-owned Gods and Monsters comics and games stores, the Cloak & Blaster gaming pub, and the Orlando CityArts gallery.

 

However, we know everyone might not be able to join us in Orlando in Summer 2022: as a conference team, we commit to building a hybrid event, and working with the changing conditions to create a safe, inclusive CP 2022. We hope you will join us!
