Console-ing Passions International Conference on Television, Video, Audio, New Media, and Feminism has for over 25 years been hosting conferences where scholars, artists, and activists present original research on television and new media, with an emphasis on gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, globalization, national identity, and gender issues in the production and consumption of televisual and digital media. The CP board is currently looking for a committed institution and a group of scholars who are interested in hosting a conference in 2020 or beyond.
Host institutions should be able to meet the following criteria:
● a small team of motivated individuals who are willing to work on conference preparations up to and during the conference
● proximity to an airport and/or easy transportation from the airport to the conference site
● overnight accommodations for at least 200 guests (on campus or in the local community)
● a media-enabled facility (with Wifi) that can host 5-6 concurrent panels (i.e., most academic buildings)
● support from the host institution (including but not limited to fundraising, advertising and donations of space)
Conference dates will be determined in cooperation between the CP board and the local organizers. The last three conferences (University of Notre Dame, East Carolina University, and Bournemouth University) have been in the summer months, but this is not a requirement.
The deadline for conference host proposals for 2020 is June 15, 2019. Beyond 2020, we ask that you submit proposals by October 1, 2019.
If you would like to request additional documents pertaining to conference hosting, specifically “Questions to Ask If You are Planning to Host CP”; the “Conference Planning Timeline”; or examples of past proposals, please contact Suzanne Leonard (Suzanne...@simmons.edu).
Proposals Should Include:
● Range of possible dates when the conference can be hosted
● Short description of the organizing institution/s and their facilities (rooms for presentations, special events, gender neutral/inclusive restrooms, accommodations)
● Information about host committee members (we recommend at least 2-3 primary organizers)
● Transportation, accommodation and dining options
● A statement about the level of support expected from the home institution; plans for administrative support
● Any relevant experience hosting conferences in the past
● Information about attractions in the local community
Please submit proposals by email to Suzanne Leonard (Suzanne...@simmons.edu). For more information on about Console-ing Passions, see our website at https://www.console-ingpassions.org/about-cp/ or follow the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1760599057350676/
