The Department of Journalism and Creative Media at The University of Alabama invites applications for an assistant or advanced assistant tenure track professor in Film and Television with an emphasis on race and gender to begin August 2023.
We seek a critical media studies scholar whose research primarily focuses on film and television and its intersection with issues of race and gender. We welcome applicants from a variety of interests who practice humanistic approaches to industry studies, textual analysis, cultural studies, global media, and/or historical studies. Preference is given toward individuals whose scholarship connects race and gender into the media industries.
Candidates are expected to teach core courses for the major such as JCM 100 (Introduction to Story); JCM 112 (Motion Picture History and Criticism); JCM 212 (Film and Media Theory); JCM 311 (Critical Study of Television); JCM 467 (Representational Ethics in Film and Television). Candidates would also be expected to develop courses in their specific research area at both the undergraduate and doctoral level.
