CFP Console-ing Passions 2027 Roundtable
Generation and Feminist Media Studies
As we approach the 40-year anniversary of the founding of Console-ing Passions, this roundtable interrogates how “generation” has informed Console-ing Passions over the past four decades. We understand “generation” as a flexible yet fraught concept that operates discursively and affectively, signalling more than merely the date of one’s birth. We aim to consider how it works (or doesn’t work) as a productive way to consider the past, present, and future “eras” of feminist media studies: How do we define and understand “generation”? How has feminist media studies been shaped by different “generations” of scholars? How has “generation” defined our media objects, research “trends,” modes of analysis, and theoretical frames? How does “generation” inform power and privilege, both within the academy but also within the wider digital attention economy? Has it foreclosed certain ideas or alliances? How can we work together as intergenerational scholars? How might CP prioritize intergenerational scholarship and mentorship?
We seek five enthusiastic participants for our roundtable in Amsterdam, which will ideally include participants from different “generations.” To apply please submit a 250-word statement addressing any of the above questions (or clearly outlining your contributions to the roundtable) and a 100-word biography, which should include how you identify generationally. Please send to Jessalynn Keller (Jessalyn...@ucalgary.ca) and Alison Harvey (alison...@glendon.york.ca) by November 15, 2026. Successful submissions will be notified by November 20, so that we can prepare our submission for the Dec. 1 conference deadline.
