One person may prefer to watch an animated series full of colourful visuals, another may want to see beautiful images of nature. What is trippy for you, might not be so special for someone else. If you are talking about psychedelic music, then Pink Floyd is of course a must. The music film Pink Floyd: The Wall is based on the world-famous album by the English rock band. You are taken on a journey that shows the rise and fall of the metaphorical Wall. The film is mainly filled with psychedelic music, matching images and trippy animations by cartoonist Gerald Scarfe. Dreams... what are they exactly? In the animated film Waking Life, you follow the dream of a man who is trying to find the difference between the real world and the dream world. As he tries to wake up from his dream, he meets many interesting people along the way who tell him more about life's questions and mysteries. The film looks trippy when you are sober. When you are tripping on magic mushrooms, it is completely out of this world.

Howl's Moving Castle is one of the gems for fans of anime. This Japanese animation film is based on a book of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones. You follow the story of Sophie, a young hatter who is turned into an old woman by a witch and cursed. In the fictional kingdom, she searches for a solution. She encounters Howl, who battles the king with his walking castle. The trippy drawing style and absurd events make this a great film to watch while tripping.

Do you find the average Disney film too intense while tripping? Do all those colours and visuals quickly become too much for you? Then The Midnight Gospel is not a great idea. In this animated series, a funny little man called Clancy Gilroy takes you on an adventure every episode through a dimension called the Chromatic Ribbon. His caravan contains a multiverse simulator that takes him to bizarre worlds full of trippy inhabitants. There he interviews people for his space podcast. These interviews are based on real interviews of Duncan Trussel with, among others, Phil Hendrie, Stephen Root and Drew Pinsky. Besides the fact that the colours in The Midnight Gospel will pop out of your screen, you can learn a lot from the series. Besides funny and comical events, Clancy and other characters tell you a lot about life. This brain-teaser is one of our favourites. It seems as if it was made for it. You just have to see it!

Do you feel connected to the earth while tripping? Does the starry sky look so beautiful to you after eating a bowl of magic mushrooms? Take out your telescope and put on the series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. In this documentary, Neil deGrasse Tyson takes you through the entire cosmos in his Ship of the Imagination. In each episode, you learn about every corner of the universe based on scientific research. The feeling is difficult to describe, but while watching this series you realize that you are only a very small curious part in a truly GIGANTIC universe. Put your chair next to the window so that you can look at the stars and let Neil deGrasse Tyson enchant you. By the way, do you want the authentic experience? Then take Cosmos: A Personal Voyage from 1980 by Carl Sagan.

Let's take a completely different direction. Many people know Alice in Wonderland. Chances are that you have seen it as a child. But when you watch this animation film as a trippy adult, it takes on a whole other dimension. The drawing style is beyond absurd. Follow Alice and the white rabbit to Wonderland and discover with her all the tripping creatures. Will you watch out for the evil queen?

Experts express their thoughts and experiences with DMT in this documentary. DMT (dimethyltryptamine) is the most powerful psychedelic substance on earth. Who ever tried it, knows how absurd tripping on DMT can be. In the documentary DMT: The Spirit Molecule you will learn more about the molecule that is found in almost every living organism on earth. Dr. Rick Strassman's research explores the connections between advanced neuroscience, quantum physics and human spirituality. The research with human subjects raises intriguing questions.

Samsara is an unscripted film with breathtakingly beautiful images of the world. Sober, the images are already beautiful, but while tripping, it is absolutely fantastic. You can put it on as a background and play your own trippy music, but the music from the film is also beautiful. It took no less than five years to make the film. It was shot in 100 different locations in 25 countries. You explore the wonders of the world in all sorts of places and search for the spirituality of mankind. In Samsara, you see the connection between people and the rest of nature's beauty.

Planet Earth is one of the most expensive and most awarded series in the world. In 11 episodes, you literally see every corner of the world. And all in Ultra HD. Turn on your 4K television and sit back and relax. The colours burst out of your screen and it almost makes you cry because it is so beautiful. Let yourself be enchanted by the voice of David Attenborough who shows you all the living spaces on Earth. Feel connected to the Earth.

Let's stick to nature images for a moment. If you love the ocean as much as we do, you must have seen Ocans. Turn off the lights and turn on your TV. Your whole room is coloured blue during this documentary, so it seems like you are swimming in the ocean yourself. So get out your snorkel. You will see images of all five oceans on earth. The biggest, most mysterious and beautiful fish pass by. Ocans also wakes you up. The ecological drama film tells you about the disappearing wonders of the underwater world. So pay close attention.

This 2006 drama/thriller is, according to some, one of the best psychedelic movies ever made. Brace yourself for this hallucinogenic trip film. If it gets too intense, you might want to pause it. Enter The Void follows drug dealer Oscar and stripper Linda. During a police raid, Oscar is hit by a bullet. He is in danger of dying, but his soul thinks differently. Because he promised to always be there for his sister, his soul does not want to leave the living world. In this trippy movie, you follow Oscar's soul. As the two-and-a-half-hour film progresses, it becomes more and more exciting and chaotic. Time lines get mixed up and your brain is put to the test. Make sure there is a trip sitter around.

Of course, the mother of trippy films cannot be missing from this list. Especially the older generation will know this film. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is about a journey of a strange journalist and his crazy lawyer to Las Vegas. Brace yourself for the comical, strange, psychedelic adventures of these two geeks. Know your classics. This is a must see.

Terence McKenna is one of the key figures in psychedelics. In our smart shop you can even buy a magic mushrooms grow kit named after him. No wonder a trippy movie was made about him. Terence McKenna's True Hallucinations is a documentary about McKenna's adventures in the Amazon. The ideas that arise from his trip result in an eschatological theory about time. This series, in which Jim Carrey plays the role of Terence, makes you think about the power and meaning of psychedelic substances. Including trippy visuals! An award-winning but trippy animated anthology series is Love, Death & Robots. Made by Tim Miller with David Fincher as executive producer. The series contains all short, animated episodes, each with its own story. A bit like Black Mirror, but animated. After watching some episodes, you won't understand a thing. You get completely carried away in the peculiar science fiction stories. Expect a mix of fantasy, comedy, horror and much more. Sit back and relax.

A world is divided into four nations. The water tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and the Air Nation. Only the Avatar, the master of all four elements, can bring balance back to this world. The Avatar disappears, but after 100 years Katara and Sokka find the new Avatar: Aang. He is the only one to master all four elements and can control fire, earth, water and air. At least, that is something he still has to learn. The story follows Aang's adventures in a war-torn world filled with magic and dangerous, mysterious characters. The way Avatar: The Last Airbender is drawn, it makes for a great trip. Our tip: Put on some good music and chill out on the couch. Because sometimes you want to watch something, follow the stories of Aang while you do it.

This animated fantasy film from 1981 is a great piece of trippy drawing. This Hungarian folk myth is about a horse goddess who gives birth to three powerful brothers. She sends her sons into the underworld to rescue three princesses from the hands of evil dragons. Only then can they regain the lost kingdom of their ancestors. Just watch the trailer. That's all we have to say.

The Trip is a psychedelic movie by definition. You follow Paul Groves, a TV advertising director. His wife has left him and he is in the middle of a personality crisis. His friend John is a big fan of LSD. Paul wants to experience tripping on LSD and asks John to be his trip-sitter. Paul ends up in a freak-out and gets all sorts of hallucinations and visions about sex, death, crazy witches, torture chambers and dwarves. If you are tripping, you will laugh your balls off. This classic from 1967 guarantees a laughing fit. Make sure John is not your trip sitter that night.
