Joshua Eugene Harris is an American former Evangelical Christian pastor. Harris' 1997 book I Kissed Dating Goodbye, in which he laid out his ideas concerning a Biblically based Christian approach to dating and relationships, helped shape purity culture for many Christian millennials.[1] Harris was lead pastor of Covenant Life Church, the founding church of Sovereign Grace Ministries, in Gaithersburg, Maryland from 2004 until 2015. In 2018, Harris disavowed I Kissed Dating Goodbye and discontinued its publication. The following year, Harris announced that he was separating from his wife, had "undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus" and had given up on his Christian faith.[2][3][4]

In July 2019, Harris announced that he and his wife were separating due to "significant changes [that] have taken place in both of us".[22][23] Subsequently, Harris revealed that he no longer considered himself a Christian and his wife began pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter under the name Shannon Bonne.[24][25][26] In addition to his previously discontinued books, with Harris's announcement of his loss of faith, the documentary film lost its distributor due to the negative reaction from the Christian market.[27]

Background: The positive effects of weight loss on obesity-related risk factors diminish unless weight loss is maintained. Yet little work has focused on the translation of evidence-based weight loss interventions with the aim of sustaining weight loss in underserved populations. Using a community-based participatory approach (CBPR) that engages the strong faith-based social infrastructure characteristic of rural African American communities is a promising way to sustain weight loss in African Americans, who bear a disproportionate burden of the obesity epidemic.

Objectives: Led by a collaborative community-academic partnership, The WORD aims to change dietary and physical activity behaviors to produce and maintain weight loss in rural, African American adults of faith.

Summary: The WORD aims to sustain weight loss in rural African Americans. The utilization of a CBPR approach and the engagement of the faith-based social infrastructure of African American communities will maximize the intervention's sustainability. Unique aspects of this trial include the focus on weight loss maintenance and the use of a faith-based CBPR approach in translating evidence-based obesity interventions.

This case follows Carla Ann Harris, an African-American executive on Wall Street, from her childhood to the eve of her 20th year at Morgan Stanley. In addition to her professional identity as an investment banker, Harris is also an accomplished gospel singer, an observant Catholic, a philanthropist, a public speaker, and a writer. Along with her successes and accomplishments, she has also faced setbacks and challenges. Despite the negative experiences African-American women face on Wall Street, Harris feels she has been successful because she "brings her authentic self to the table." A unique aspect of Harris' story is that throughout her journey she nourishes other aspects of her identity, such as her singing, her devotion to her faith, and her desire to help others-a difficult feat in the financial services industry given the culture of long hours, competitiveness, and cynicism. The case ends with a career decision: Harris must decide whether to start an ambitious program for emerging female and minority asset managers (the Emerging Manager Program or EMP). The program represents a way to bring together her professional expertise and personal passion to help people thrive in their work, but like all entrepreneurial ventures it has associated risks. The case helps students to understand how one's own identities are central to one's career development, relationship building, and professional growth; to consider how maintaining unique aspects of oneself can help people succeed in a challenging organizational culture; and to provide a forum for discussing issues of race and gender in a profession in which there are few minorities and women at senior levels.

This case is accompanied by a Video Short that can be shown in class or included in a digital coursepack. Instructors should consider the timing of making the video available to students, as it may reveal key case details.

Redeeming the Realities of Marriage

Marriage, according to Scripture, will always involve two flawed people living with each other in a fallen world. Yet, in pastor Paul Tripp's professional experience, the majority of couples enter marriage with unrealistic expectations, leaving them unprepared for the day-to-day realities of married life.

This unique book introduces a biblical and practical approach to those realities that is rooted in God's faithfulness and Scripture's teaching on sin and grace. "Spouses need to be reconciled to each other and to God on a daily basis," Tripp declares. "Since we're always sinners married to sinners, reconciliation isn't just the right response in moments of failure. It must be the lifestyle of any healthy marriage."

What Did You Expect? presents six practical commitments that give shape and momentum to such a lifestyle. These commitments, which include honestly facing sin, weakness, and failure; willingness to change; and embodying Christ's love, will equip couples to develop a thriving, grace-based marriage in all circumstances and seasons of their relationship.

When I began writing fantasy, these questions found a prominent place in my work. In the Earthsinger Chronicles, the evolving relationship between the people and those they put their faith in is a strong theme. With religious division, wars, and hatred separating us in the real world, can we make sense of things and find unity and empathy for others on the page?

New York Times best-selling author, international speaker, and spirit junkie, Gaby Bernstein teaches you how to transform fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. Each story and lesson in The Universe Has Your Back guides you to release the blocks that are holding you back from what you long for: happiness, security, and clear direction. When the tragedies of the world seem overwhelming, this book will help guide you back to your true inner power.

I am so grateful that there is such a good, kind and competent human being as to build and publish for FREE such a comprehensive, consistent and complete guide as this one. My faith in humanity is restored.
