Hi, Everyone!
My name is Erin Fairchild, and I work for the Multnomah County Domestic Violence Coordination Office, coordinating a federally funded grant project called the Defending Childhood Initiative. We are working with systems and communities to help all of us better recognize, respond to and prevent children's exposure to multiple forms of violence. I started social justice work in the DV community about 12 years ago, and I am a social worker focused on childhood trauma and social/emotional well-being. I believe that parenting can be revolutionary. One of the many reasons I work with systems to improve supports for children and families is because I believe that social change can be advanced when more children are raised in loving, nurturing homes and communities where their basic needs are met. Compassion begets compassion. I don't eat factory farmed animals, I love my cats and chickens, I believe that my well-being is directly connected to the well-being of the humans and animals of the world, etc. etc. The Connect The Dots philosophy resonates with me, because I believe that all oppressions and systems of domination are connected -- and that we are all stronger together when standing up to injustice. I believe in the human capacity for good. I love words. I love makeup. I love music and dancing. I love fashion. I love popcorn. I love the triumph of the human spirit and Friday Night Lights. I'm sure there's more to me, but there you go!
