Hi Fellow Connectionists!

We are looking for items for promotion, message sharing, fundraising,
freebies and such that are as ethical and sustainable as possible. Do
have any suggestions? A favorite tee shirt vendor? Recycled
materials? We would love to hear from you. What do you do at your
organization? How does one balance the necessity of promotion with
care for humans, animals, and our planet?

Please share your thoughts!

Hi Ashley and all,

I'm so glad you brought this important question up! We are trying to
figure out these same issues within Northwest VEG.

In the past, I've purchased organic cotton American Apparel t-shirts.
They are more expensive than all the other organic brands (that I
found), but the t-shirt quality is good.

Looking forward to hearing others thoughts,
Wendy

I'd advise against American Apparel because although they claim to use
ethical business practices, they're just a sweatshop in LA. Also, the
owner is notorious for sexual harassment and the ads feature highly
sexualized images of women, including ones that are basically just
porn (http://copyranter.blogspot.com/2011/01/nsfw-american-apparels-new-porny-pencil.html).

Equalize uses Gildan Euro-style...they're less expensive than AA and
they fit about the same.

It takes one person to make a difference, but together we can start a

Thanks for your suggestion, Alex.

I checked out Gildan's website and it doesn't appear that they offer
an organic option. Have you purchased one in the past?

Thanks,
Wendy

Have to agree with Alex here. The owner, Dov, says women are at fault
for domestic violence too. There is just so much about him...CA NOW
had to vote not to use their products (when I was a member).

Haven't gotten anything organic from them...it's more important that I
go through a company with better practices than get organic cotton
(also have to keep my costs down).
