Hi CMS group,

I would like to be able to use the restart option with CMS, as I am doing some long runs and running into job walltime limits/at risk of losing the output if the program/server crashes.
I looked through some previous discussions and saw that people have had trouble implementing this in the past.

The documentation says that 'CMS will create a binary file when all the information necessary to restart a run for passive particles, that is, not using the ibm.list options (all options in ibm.list set to .false., see section 5.2)'. I'm using ibm.list (with only the outputtemp and outputsaln options set to true) so it's unsurprising that the restart doesn't work with me using the ibm.list options. Does anyone know why writerestart doesn't work with ibm.list options or has anyone come up with a way to for it to work while using ibm.list?

I tried setting writerestart to true just to test what would happen, and I got a segmentation error (copied below). In the meantime I am trying running 1 year at a time, and starting each new run with the final particle positions from the previous run as I don't have another solution to the computational limits right now.

Thanks,

Veronica
