Job Title: API Architect

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)
Duration: Long-Term Contract


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced API Architect to design, develop, and govern enterprise-grade API solutions that support digital transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in API architecture, microservices, cloud technologies, and integration platforms, with the ability to define API standards and best practices across the organization.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in software development and enterprise integration.
  • 5+ years of experience as an API Architect or Integration Architect.
  • Strong expertise in designing RESTful APIs and Microservices Architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Java, and API development frameworks.
  • Experience with API Gateway platforms such as Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway, or Azure API Management.
  • Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, SSL/TLS, and API security best practices.
  • Experience with API lifecycle management, versioning, documentation, and governance.
  • Knowledge of OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with MuleSoft, IBM API Connect, or Boomi.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL and gRPC.
  • Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Financial services or banking domain experience.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design scalable, secure, and high-performance API architectures.
  • Define API standards, governance, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Develop reusable API frameworks and reference architectures.
  • Architect RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications.
  • Lead API strategy, modernization, and cloud migration initiatives.
  • Ensure API security through OAuth 2.0, JWT, encryption, and access control.
  • Collaborate with development, security, infrastructure, and business teams.
  • Review application designs and provide architectural guidance.
  • Implement API monitoring, logging, analytics, and performance optimization.
  • Support CI/CD automation and DevOps practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration and performance issues.
  • Mentor development teams on API design and architecture principles.

Nice to Have

  • Certification in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or API Management platforms.
  • Experience with Event-Driven Architecture (EDA).
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes Operators and Service Mesh.
  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns and messaging technologies.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Relevant cloud or API platform certifications are a plus.
