Job Title: IBM MQ Administrator

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)
Duration: Long-Term Contract

 

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced IBM MQ Administrator to manage, support, and optimize IBM MQ environments for enterprise applications. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in IBM MQ administration, middleware support, troubleshooting, security configuration, and high-availability deployments in Linux/Unix environments.

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of experience as an IBM MQ Administrator.
  • Strong experience with IBM MQ 8.x, 9.x, and above.
  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and administering IBM MQ on Linux/Unix platforms.
  • Experience creating and managing Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Listeners, and Clusters.
  • Strong understanding of MQ clustering, workload balancing, and high availability.
  • Experience with Multi-Instance Queue Managers, RDQM, or other HA solutions.
  • Knowledge of SSL/TLS configuration, MQ authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting MQ connectivity, channel issues, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience monitoring IBM MQ using enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with shell scripting (Bash/Korn) for automation.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers, and Firewalls.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with IBM Integration Bus (IIB), App Connect Enterprise (ACE), or IBM DataPower.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with container platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of Kafka or other messaging technologies is a plus.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM MQ environments.
  • Create and manage Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Listeners, and Clusters.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively resolve production issues.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and health checks.
  • Configure MQ security using SSL/TLS certificates and channel authentication.
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Troubleshoot application connectivity and messaging issues.
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using shell scripts or automation tools.
  • Work closely with application, infrastructure, and network teams to resolve incidents.
  • Support production deployments and participate in on-call support when required.
  • Maintain operational documentation and follow change management processes.

Nice to Have

  • IBM MQ Administration Certification.
  • Experience in banking or financial services environments.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
