Hi

Sorry to ask a very boring question, but I have been having trouble finding a supplier for Water Proof cat 5/6 cable. I found one way too expensive ($490 for 305m) and only a single (4 pairs). I was hoping to buy 8 or 12 pair cable. Any suggestions appreciated. Already tried AWM, Middys and Madison.

That price doesn't look very surprising to me. Someone with a good trade account might get it cheaper from those types of companies but not an individual.

A quick scan of alibaba shows at least one place that'll sell you quantities that won't scare you at reasonable prices so maybe that might be the best option.

Scott,

If you only need a few metres, how about a PUR cable (bit of a pain to strip, but certainly tough)
Just get a quote first and it will probably be about half that per metre price

Alternatively Bulgin (Buccanneer), Samtec (Acclimate SCPE/SCRES), possibly Amphenol all make waterproof IP68 RJ45 panel connectors, and pre-terminated, molded ethernet cables to match and maintain the IP rating.

Finally you could also look at Profinet cable (purple shielded cable used in industrial applications)

I was going to suggest Madison for something from Belden, but see you've already tried them.   You could also ask Eltech (Lilydale)

cheers
Lachlan

Hi..

I use normal CAT5 for my ROV, total length is about 600 feet with plans to add more. I just have the end at the ROV sealed in wax with the control unit.

If you only need a very small amount, like several meters, I've got a bit of black UV-stabilised, gel-filled cat. 5 you can have.

I need a few hundred metres. This one I found:

Seems reasonable price, but only 4 pairs. But I can double up.
(also mostly only 100MB Ethernet - so that gives me two connections on each cable anyway).
