ARMAGEDDON EVENT 13-14TH OCT
To: connected-comm...@googlegroups.com

Dear all,

the Armageddon event is scheduled 13-14th oct.

No, I didn't know what it was, either. Looks fun in similar vein to ComicCon

http://armageddonexpo.com/au/

Presently, we have been offered a table with the Robot Builder group (also similar to ComicCon) to promote our club and amaze/impress the punters... er... general public!

Only problem is, we won't have any of the big robots (R2-D2, K9, etc.) available that weekend via the Robot Builders, so it's totally up to the Hackerspace / Melbourne CCHS crew to amp it up.

Therefore, we are doing a call-out for items to display.

We will have the club 3D printer(s) there and going if possible, and would like to borrow the LED cube I saw Andy with the other day.

'copters (may not be able to fly 'em per se, TBA)

kits,

'bots,

LED signs/displays,

rPies,

'tronix,

anything at any stage of completion...

Also, 3D printed objects to show off, possibly sell... TBA)

--Also, call-out for volunteers to help promote club(s). We will only have 4x weekend passes, but can 'tag-team' them. Day passes $25.
-- RobotBuilders can provide two big posters.

-- Call-out for Hackerspace posters, promo materials, fliers, T-shirt designs, etc. I have some screen printing stuff and expertise, and about 500 small-ish B&W tshirts... Fabulous!

-- Application deadline: ASAP / RBN, (as soon as possible, right bl**dy now...) as only 4 weeks to go. Hurry!

Therefore:

1. Who would like to help us out that weekend, even if only for a few hrs?
2. Who has any items they can bring or lend us to show off? Think of this like a 'maker faire' dry run!
3. Designs for fliers, T-shirts, posters

We are really time pressed for this and must submit applications ASAP / RBN

but member-level calls volunteering for helping out, items, designs, etc. please let us know ASAP,

(but probably right up until the 'deadline' 7th Oct)

Wes, the frantically busy person.

Hi Wes,

Would you be interested in bringing a cardboard robot?  Attached is a photo.  It has a span of 1.5 meters and can pick up stuffed animals.   The robot works with Windows at the moment -- the Mac version is still a work in progress.

Unfortunately I plan to be in New York on the dates of the show, but if you or someone else would like to adopt it for a few weeks let me know.

Cheers,
Ken

I could bring the quadcopter if you want and could also help out. I would not like to fly it though cause I could really hurt some people in such a small area.

I have been to Armageddon before its like a comic con but in a much larger space. More relaxed atmosphere.
There is an outdoor area we could do some stuff maybe.

Hi all!

Thanks Wes!

As it appears there will be a lack of turn out from the Melbourne Robot Workshop and R2 Builders members in Melbourne I am turning over the table wholly for the Hackerspace to utilize. ( we will have 2 robot posters to put up though...LOL )

K-9 will be at the event but is being used in the Armageddon "Lords of Time " display with Allan's TARDIS to promote the big Dr Who event next April.

A tech on hand on the day would be useful in case of any K-9 cook outs.

Also chasing anyone who can assist wiring up the flashing Blue light on the TARDIS ( it is in Brighton ).

There is a good line up of stars attending.

Dave, are you still coming down, would be useful if you can, and you can meet Andy and Wes.

Cheers

Hi Adric

Your Quadcopter would be most appreciated for Armageddon.

It is most likely not allowed to fly due to public liability concerns, however I will ask Scotty, the Armageddon event owner what we can do.

Cheers

That should be on the poster. "We'd show you the really cool stuff here, but it's TOO DANGEROUS for ARMAGEDDON: Come visit the hackerspace." :)

Hi Adam

Yep if you can supply any parts for display that would be great.

Hi All,

I was under the impression my R2-D2 Comm C frame was going to be on display.   Has this changed ?

Regards,

Adam

Hi Wes,

I don't make no bots, but I have time to help out on 13 Oct from morning to about 4pm.
Also can lift delicate stuff carefully, and talk well about HackerSpace Melbourne to people with nice smile.
