Just wondering if anyone has made this up and if its worth it?
I am having trouble finding somewhere that sells the strength of HCL so any suggestions on a place to buy it would be great

I have - however, my fondness of the environment made me less inclined to use it on a large scale.
Copper chloride is toxic... Toxic freaks me out a bit.
I wasn't sure how to store it.

I got the HCl from Bunnings, from the section you would go to if you want to clean bricks.

I checked my local Bunnings and they didn't have it. I even asked and they said they didn't carry that high a %
I might go to another Bunnings that's bigger and see what they have.

When looking around at storage options it seemed anything non metallic was fine to store it in.
I have some thick pyrex glass containers with solid plastic lids so i think that should be fine.

Yes I have too. But I used Vinegar instead of HCl and mixed Hydrogen Peroxide. It made a very weak solution but it did etch the board eventually (in about 36-48 hours). In regards to toxicity my understanding is that any etchant solution will be toxic the one sold at Jaycar is at least as toxic right? I tried to find a non-toxic option too but didn't come up with anything. I'm not a chemist though so I'm very happy to enlightened.

cheers

Hmm, I can't remember the strength of the HCl that I bought, but it worked much quicker than 36 hours (for a board the size of a credit card).
I never needed to produce many boards, so I just used pre-etched prototyping boards instead.

The non-toxic method that I wanted to get working was to use a CNC mill ;)

I haven't, but I've used HCl/peroxide extensively before. Similar advantages... eg. cheaper than ammonium persulfate, doesn't require hot water, works at room temperature, doesn't require dissolving a solid compound etc.

FYI, the normal ratio I use is 1:2:3 mixture of 50% hydrogen peroxide, 35% HCl, and water respectively, at room temperature. The water is very important as a mixture of concentrated HCl and concentrated H2O2 without dilution is fiendishly reactive. But you might need to adjust that, and use more peroxide and less water, if you can only get very low concentration peroxide.

CNC mill is great idea. Another thing that would be awesome would a printer (3D or 2.5D) that could print a conductive medium. I doubt that's too far off.
