Has anyone had a look at the new Max?

I'm thinking of asking our work laser cutter to quote me on a set (when the plans are released) to convert my Max 1ish.

What do people think of the new design? I like the right triangle shape.

Hi Jacob,

I've been keeping an eye on the MendelMax 2.0.
They're still in beta, so I've not yet put in an order yet for a kit. Then-again, at this stage, it's unlikely to change much, and they're offering to send any diffs for free.
My plan is to buy the Hardware Kit, and build or buy other parts locally -- that'll reduce the overall cost, and get the kit into Australia without extra charges/taxes. Have started collecting and building various bits, because I think that's a more interesting way to go (If I wanted something that worked "out of the box" I'd buy something else).

Cheers,
Damien

That's what I'm thinking of doing as well. Good to know someone is currently doing that! When I inevitably get stuck, I'll be coming to you for help ;)

Hi Damien,

I did that with my original max. Defiantly learnt a-lot that way!

As far as ordering the hardware kit, acording to the store any kits ordered now will be the final build but at the beta price (for a limited time).

Have to say i'm a big fan of the "print optional" direction.

Jacob, ta for the tip to move quickly.

I confirmed with them last night that the Hardware Kit includes the Kapton heater, aluminium bed, and borosilicate glass.
They're very prompt responding to email.

Placed an order, got the Beta price. :)

Cheers,
Damien

Hi folks,

After see-sawing between the MM2 and the Replicator 2X, I finally made
a decision and just placed an order for an MM2 beta kit :-)

By the way, I checked with maxbot on IRC about splitting shipping of
the MM2 so that each package is under the $1k threshold for import
duty, and he said they always split-ship them anyway: one package with
the hardware, one package with everything else. Each package is under
$1k individually, so hopefully there'll be no import duty on it.

Cheers

Jon
