Dear all,

I am very delighted to see you all at 3D printing night.

Inspired by Garry's machine I am very keen to make another Ord Bot. As December will be quite at work, I am planning to dedicate some quality time and get this done as project

Do you think it is a good idea to make the frame or is it better to get a kit.

After looking at all the things you guys have done, I am reasonably confident to do it.  I will take the lead, but am looking for your support and input.

What do you say?

Regards.
Dinesh

More then happy to discuss areas of improvement, personally if building again I would use slightly longer Y Makerslide, and Z makerslide and threaded rods and push build area to 300x200x200, The x axis is wide enough to support dualextrusion if you keep the extruders compact enough.

Thanks a lot Garry.

Took a while to go through the info.I have just attempted to cost the parts from BOM that was available in buildlog. Not sure how much can we source locally or make it to keep the cost to minimum. Will discuss with you when I see you next Monday.

In the attached file there are couple of things that I couldn';t understand (marked in yellow).  Could you please clarify what those parts are.

Thanks & Regards,
Dinesh

in this picture from the build guide you can see them bolted to the motors

Bot foot x 3 cut from thick acrylic

Nut blocks by 2, screw to X gantry to trap the nut on the Z rod to allow Z movement

belt clamps x 2, attach to the bottom / back of the x and Y carriages are acrylic possible lasered

misumi 2040 is an aluminium extrusion 40mm x 20mm from misumi, does not have tracks and is used for framing rather then motion, at base of orbot running in X direction below the upright makerslides

Hi Garry, Thank you very much for the clarifications. I will update the BOM.
Could you also let me know where did you source fully assembled ramps+arduino board - was it reprap discount on eBa?
Thanks

Hi I have updated the Costing information after your clarifications.  Attached is the updated sheet.

After going through below are my conclusions:

Advantages if sourced as Kit from Automation Technologies:
  1. Sourcing the frame parts separately is not giving any much saving sourcing as a kit - infact it will cost more
  2. Will take out the pain of co-ordinating with various suppliers and associated postage and delays
  3.  May avoid any missing parts
Disadvantages:
  1. Can customize the frame to a larger one 300X200X200
Question?:  If i source more makerslide from makerslideasia or so can we get the kit altered to a bigger build volume?
