Hi Ashish

Yes i had seen this stuff. Jaycar has it as well.

It is quite flexible and after talking to Trystan on Saturday this may be of some use in the bend areas of the neck and head where it would create a smooth guide surface on tight bends. The only issue would be having to trim the centre all the way along the length to fit the tape width.

In hindsight I am going to go and have another closer look at this stuff again.

The cheapest place i have seen it is Bunnings.

Cheers mate

Hi Dayle,

Cutting out the cable channels from this could work.

A similar product is available at Bunnings too.

Hi guys

Ok…..I have hit a snag with fitting my computer punch tape system into K-9.

I have worked out that I cannot put a spool of any kind in his head due to lack of space, therefore I will need to mount a spool ( with the punch tape wound onto it obviously ) inside his main body, then run a channel internally up his neck and into his head, it will then run under the antenna, light housing and blaster to the slot where the tape will come out.

The problem I have is that I need some form of channel that is very flexible to allow for some tight bends, in particular a near 90 degree turn at the exit inside his neck on entry into his head.

The channel material needs to very flexible but able to hold its rigidity so that there are no crimps that will make the tape snag as it is running up the channel. The tape is 1 inch wide so the channel needs to be a little wider than 1 inch to allow free movement on the sides as it travels.  The height needs to be fairly small, a few mm, around 5mm would be ideal. So that’s a bit more than 1 inch wide and about 5mm in height.

I have seen some plastic PVC oblong shaped conduit and some oblong shaped flexible steel conduit on image search. I have no idea where I begin to look for this type of stuff …..so….. if anyone has some bright ideas….please let me know.

Cheers

Yep, a closer look might reveal the internals better. However from the image, it appears that the channels in the middle are connected to the stem only along one edge to be able to slide cables in. This might make gutting it easier.

Let us know how you go.

Cheers,
Ashish
