Cleaning up WiND

[Loosely Rigorous]

Hello everyone,

In our recent meeting we decided to clean up WiND. As most of you

are aware WiND is clogged up with many unused nodes, most of

which are essentially bogus. So cleaning up will help with visualising

the actual state of the network.

It will also be a chance for us to probe for interest in HWMN. Με ένα

σμπάρο δυό τρυγόνια, and so forth.

Some people who attended the meeting offered to take up on this task.

Anyone else who wants to help, please let us know!

The process by which we decided to clean up is basically:

We e-mail node owners using the address they provided in WiND. Then:

  a) If we get a positive answer, we leave the node unchanged

  b) If we get a negative/no answer, we delete the node.

So, let’s start cleaning house!

At the meeting, I volunteered to do the "nagging". I'm still willing to do it.

Any chance we can get an SQL dump of the user e-mails and their last login timestamp and/or node status?

Also, a couple of afterthoughts:

• Do you think the sender's e-mail should be one from a hwmn domain (to boost legitimacy)?
  
• Maybe the functionality of wind (DNS record, ability to send mail, etc) should be restored before sending the e-mail.
  (Some users who were actually interested were never able to complete the sign up process and others might need to log-in to update their data.)
• A solid Wiki would make comms easier (by answering a few FAQs). Though, not absolutely necessary: I can send a second e-mail to the people really interested with explicit details.

Yes we should have the domain fixed first.
I contacted Dimitris Koukoulakis to update the nameservers of the domain.

I think the first step is to get it working. I remember being an admin in a few of the recent node so I can go ahead and delete them for you already.
