I'm currently upgrading my computer with new hardware and as part of this I am re-installing Windows 10 from a DVD media that I've created with the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.

This probably occurs because the installation media does not contain a specific driver for this device. I can download the driver from the motherboard manufacturer's website, and I can extract it to a USB drive. The archive contains the CAT and INF files so it doesn't require running an installer.

The question is: how can I use this driver during the Windows 10 setup process so that the setup application can use and connect to my wireless access point, access the Internet, and download necessary other drivers, updates and what-not?

Is the process the same as when using a custom AHCI or RAID driver i.e. you just choose "Load custom driver" at the early stage of the setup, and point it to the folder where the INF and CAT files are?

What ended up happening was I upgraded to Windows 11 but a couple weeks after I experienced issues, like not being able to connect to the internet, not being able to adjust the brightness (still always stuck at max brightness), and the sound output is all wonky, so I handed off my laptop to a friend and asked him to revert it back to Windows 10, which I now horribly regret.

1. By using the HP cloud recovery tool if your notebook was supported. That would have had you create a bootable USB recovery drive that would have reinstalled W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Hi sorry to bother you again, but my Wi-Fi adapter finally came in last night and I was able to update my laptop to Windows 11, hoping it would recover the missing drivers/adapters, but sadly that didn't happen.

I also tried downloading the drivers from the HP site by letting the site detect my laptop drivers and downloading those but my laptop still cannot connect to the internet without the Wi-Fi adapter. Running the troubleshooter for Wi-Fi/network adapters just tells me there are missing drivers.

Is there a way to fix this, or like is there something I'm doing wrong?

I bought the NUC6i7KYK from Amazon in end December and I encountered the same problem during the installation of Windows 10. However, after I downgrade to version 20.x recommended in this thread, I can see the same warning message and successfully complete the installation of the LAN device driver as an interim solution.

I find out the problem. The problem is caused the Windows 10 licence used. The licence that I used for the initial installation was a licence before activation for evaluation purposes. This licence inhibited all Windows and device drivers update, Windows Store download, etc. After I have properly activated the Windows 10 licence, I am able to download all the Windows updates and successfully installed the latest device drivers included the Intel LAN drivers 21.1.
