Hello. I just upgraded to MacOS Big Sur. I downloaded the latest drivers for this printer from the Canon's website, but they do not work. Can you please tell me if Canon has printer drivers for this printer and macos big sur? Thanks.
I have very good news. The printer driver was already installed in my computer. I just had to remove the printer from the list of printers in system preferences, and add it again. When I added the printer, the software appeared and was ready to use. Thanks for your help. Rick.
I went to the apple support forums and read that if the driver for this printer was updated on 10/02/20, it could not have been tested for Big Sur, which was released later. So I think Canon has to update the printer driver for Big Sur.
After this, you should be able to use apt search mp280 (replace mp280 as needed for other devices) to find the correct driver, or install Synaptic Package Manager (sudo apt install synaptic) for a nice GUI search.
I have a Canon MP280 connected to an iMac M1 Silicon running OS 12.3.1. The connection is via the standard USB cable plugged into a Satechi multi-port adapter and then by USB-C into the iMac. Since upgrading to 12.3.1 the iMac tells me that the promoter is off-line which it is not. I reset the Printer system which deleted the printer and downloaded the current drivers. But I am unable to install it as the iMac does not see the Canon printer. How should I resolve this issue?
Canon last released printer drivers and an updated Canon 18.2.0 scanner driver for the PIXMA MP820 for macOS Catalina in Fall 2021. They show no support for Monterey and only list their Oct 2020 ICA scanner driver for Big Sur. This was released before Big Sur was released by Apple so its age suggests it may not work in Monterey either.
I suggest you consider purchasing a new printer/scanner solution that is advertised with Apple AirPrint support. Then you need not worry about vendor driver support again. Apple's Airprint works with networked (wired/wireless) devices, and USB devices only through a limited number of networked print servers.
If a client user opens the printer driver properties (to display the properties when using Windows 7, press the Alt key, and select Printer properties from the displayed File menu) and then clicks OK with the Enable bidirectional support check box cleared on the Ports tab, the bidirectional communication function of the printer server may also be disabled.
Hello guys, I have just installed arch linux on my dad's laptop because windows was just too laggy. He is very satisfied with arch but there is one problem. I cant get his printer going. He has an MP280 from Canon and it just doesnt print. I tried installing cups, I tried installing drivers from the AUR (cnijfilter-mp280 3.40.1-3.1), configuring cups, but nothing works. Do you guys have any ideas?

This particular case has one small thing that I can tell you anyway. remove the canon driver, and use gutenprint instead, those drivers tend to work better/ more hasslefree than the drivers officially provided by canon.
Ok, so after I installed the guten print drivers, the printer was doing nothing and I was getting the "filter failed" message. Now I installed the cnij-mp280 package from the AUR and the little display on my printer tells me that it is printing something when I try to print, so my computer and my printer are communicating. The thing is my printer would not print anything and would just show me the spinny thing on its display but nothing more. After I checked cups I saw that it is indeed processing, but it is still giving me the filter failed message. Any ideas?

Canon printers, especially newer ones, aren't the most linux friendly printers. I don't know how old the MP280 is, but an online review is dated Aug, 2010 which makes me think it's been around long enough that the gutenprint driver should work.
