Call procedure, emergency and safety procedures are practiced with different communication games. "Live Calls" and traffic towards real coastal radio stations via VHF, MF, HF and satellite systems are made on our ship radio stations. This provides a greater understanding of how radio systems operate in reality, than the simulated environment can provide. IMO requirements for ROC (Model Course 1.26) and GOC (Model Course 1.25) are met by this simulator and its ship stations. The range of courses is addressed to both external courses as well as the programmes. Our radio simulator is manufactured by Transas.

Opening in 1983 in Toledo, Ohio, we expanded to our current location in Dania Beach, Florida (just south of Fort Lauderdale) in 1986. After extensive facility improvements, we opened for business in 1993 with one of the world's first 360 degree field of view Full Mission bridge simulators. A second full mission bridge simulator featuring a 270 degree field of view, as well as full mission engine room and liquid cargo simulators, were also installed. In the Meridian Maritime Training Centre trainings are performed using the latest navigation simulator Wärtsilä Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 (NTPRO 5000). Officers of Navigational watch, Senior Officers and Captains have ability to pass simulation exercises in 15 navigation areas and more than 20 types of ships.
An integral part of the simulator is the Navigation Debriefing room, in which the exercises, records performed on the Bridge simulator are discussed and debriefing is held with the instructor. The room is also equipped with a wall projector, which allows to show the real scenario to the trainees.
Wärtsilä Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 (NTPRO 5000) fully complies with ISO standards, IMO and STCW convention requirements.
GMDSS simulators accurately imitate actual ship-to-ship communications and ship-to-shore stations using highly realistic simulated terrestrial and satellite communication systems. Trainees can be familiarised with the correct operation of a variety of GMDSS equipment for distress and general communication as the software emulates recognised GMDSS equipment produced by S.P. Radio, Thrane&Thrane and other manufacturers.
ECDIS systems can be supplied in various configurations, from the computer programs suitable for shipboard training to the full mission simulators with real ship controls. Configurations may vary to suit individual or group simulator training and the needs for monitoring from the instructor station.
Engine Room simulator ERS 5000 is designed to train and assess the competence of engine department personnel, including officers in charge of an engineering watch, second and chief engineers and ratings forming part of engineering watch.
Liquid Cargo Handling simulators (LCHS 5000 TechSim) are designed to train and certify crew members of liquid cargo tankers, gas carriers and terminals, as well as other staff responsible for the safe cargo handling and the operation of auxiliary equipment. LCHS 5000 TechSim provides an exact, detailed copy of vessel/terminal systems and its compartments. Transas Europe GmbH has successfully commissioned a Navi-Trainer 4000 Fishing Simulation System combined with TGS 4100 GMDSS Simulation System and ERS 4000 Simulation System at Tenerife, Spain. Basra's Arabian Gulf Academy For Maritime Studies will soon be able to offer its students a high-class hands-on training using three simulators from Transas: Engine Room simulator ERS 5000, GMDSS simulator and Radar/ARPA simulator. The simulators will provide trainees with a wide range of navigational and engineering skills.
The Transas GMDSS simulator TGS 5000 is designed for training and examination of seafarers, who are going to obtain General Operator Certificate (GOC) or Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC). The simulator fully complies with IMO Resolution 4.703 (17) and the latest STCW code requirements.
Each of eight trainee consoles include control panels of VHF&DSC, MF/HF&DSC, remote alarm/distress box for Inmarsat mini-C GMDSS and battery panel. One of the features of this simulator is imitation of radio wave propagation using radio ether model, which takes into account the frequency range, time of the day and distance between the stations.
Transas Middle East supplied a training suite including navigational, engine room and GMDSS simulators to Dar Es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI), a leading Maritime Training Institution in Tanzania and amongst east African nations.
Under the contract, Transas has upgraded the Dar Es Salaam's navigational simulator to the newest generation Transas Full Mission Ship Simulator NTPRO 5000 with 270 degree horizontal field of view and rear visualisation channel.
New generation navigational simulator as per Transas boasts visualization system offering the highest level of realism featuring wind-generated sea state and variable swell model with user selected sea state spectrum, accurate vessel and wave interaction, full scene and environment reflection, and three dimensional bow waves and propeller wash and associated floating object interference. New grounding, synchronous rolling, broaching and other modeling features provide unsurpassed quality of training. Integrated VHF and Intercom solutions, voice communication are available for debrief and assessment. Particular attention was paid to radar. Transas now has reached another level in accurate and realistic radar picture presentation. This has been achieved by years of experience and strong industry feedback.
The project also included supply, installation and commissioning of a full mission engine room simulator, steam boiler and gas turbine simulators and a PC based multifunctional classroom simulator for 12 trainees to acquire knowledge and experience in ECDIS and GMDSS operations, as Transas states. Resource management and team training can be provided by integrating full mission shiphandling simulator and full mission ERS.
