The arcade disc is a great way to get used to the basic handling properties of the cars, particularly if you pick "racing mode" rather than the overly-arcadey "drift". The cars available are totally stock, which makes them nice and slow, so you can really get the general feel and understanding of the physics. Once you can win races regularly in arcade mode, you're ready for GT2!

A good rule of thumb for the Sim disc is don't immediately buy a powerful rear wheel drive car -- they're the most difficult to drive, and if you're a novice you'll be spinning out on every corner. This can be really frustrating, so instead, choose a 4WD (four wheel drive) or FF (front engine, front wheel drive), since these cars are much more forgiving and easier to drive.

Most players want to get in and start racing immediately. We don't recommend that. If you really want to make rapid progress, then go to the B license and earn it. But don't just stop there. Keep playing until you have all gold medals. If you're a halfway decent player, it won't take more than a couple of hours, and we promise you that this time investment is so-o-o-o-o worth it, because it gives you a huge advantage later in the game. Basically, when you get all gold medals in the B license, you win a Spoon S2000, which is good enough to win all 16 of the GT National Races, without any (if you're good), or with very minor (if you're a crap driver) modifications. And doing this earns you an absolute load of cash, since you don't have to buy a cheap (and crappy) car and then waste tons of money getting it to a decent level of tune.

With all the money you generate, you can buy pretty much any decent high-performance car and be able to enter the more challenging races and earn even more cash. The Mitsubishi Evo VI RS gets our highest recommendation as a second car. Fully tuned, this car delivers an impressive 593 horsepower, and thanks to its relatively light weight and AWD, it's one of the easiest cars to drive fast. Not only that, if you buy this car, and all the different stage tunes available for it, you can use it to win virtually every non-racing car event. Just go to the Machine Test menu, select one of the options, select "Settings" from the menu and fiddle with the options until the car is just under the power requirement -- and then go race it. Because you're using just two cars to win so many races, you not only end up with a ton of cash, you also earn a boatload of cool prize stock and racing cars that you can then either sell, or keep and tune to win the rest of the races.

The first thing to buy is decent tires. For general racing, the racing super-soft tires are simply excellent. They let you accelerate, brake and corner at far higher speeds than stock. Tires are definitely the first upgrade you should get.

Up next should be a racing muffler and performance chip. Both yield a great power boost for relatively little cash, and if it's a turbo car, a racing intercooler also delivers an impressive increase in power, again for a relatively small sum of money. Also, a racing flywheel is a superb purchase, helping the engine rev more freely and deliver power far better -- all for about a grand.

Then it's just a case of personal preference and how much money you have. Suspension definitely helps, as does a racing transmission and other engine goodies. Lightening the car also gives a great performance boost, and finally a stage turbo or NA tune to boost the power through the roof.

Manufacturer Races are very easy. All you need to win any manufacturer race is to add a stage 2 tune (either turbo or NA, depending on the car) and sports tires to the car. We didn't lose one single manufacturer race using this strategy. However, you do need to earn a lot of cash to do this, but if you start by doing the GT and Special Events first as per our recommendation above, you'll have enough bonus prize cars and money to enable you buy all the cars you need -- or generate more cash so you can compete in all the manufacturers races.

Select a car that you know can win Race 3 of the Gran Turismo All Stars series -- the five-lap race of Red Rock Valley. Something like a [R] Unisia GT-R GT or Pikes Peak car are easy to win with, unless you're a spectacularly inept driver. You earn 50,000 credits for winning the race, but the best thing is that the prize car is a Speed 12, which you can sell for cool 500,000 credits. Since the race takes about five and a half minutes to run, you can basically earn yourself in excess of 10,000,000 credits an hour, as long as you don't lose. Then you can buy all the Rally cars, specials and high performance cars you like. Oh yeah -- if you can find a quicker way of earning cash than that, we'd like to hear about it!

Like the previous game, you can cheat in GT2 by cutting corners and chicanes, using walls to ricochet around bends and by utilizing overly aggressive driving techniques where you bash other cars out of the way to ensure you get that all-important first race. Whether or not you do this totally depends on what you want from the game. If you just want to win and earn money quickly, cheat away. But if you really want to learn how to play the game properly and have a decent racing challenge where your skills are truly tested, try to play the game without resorting to dirty tactics. End result, it's more fun and you end up with much cooler movies that showcase your skills. After all, who wants to see some retard in a Pikes Peak car with his foot flat to the floor, banging and ricocheting around every corner?

Players can sort and organize their garages -- something that GT fans have been wanting since the first game. When you're in the garage, you can use the start button to send the currently-selected car to the top of the garage. That way you can group your cars together and organize your garage however you like. Cool!

With the extensive selection on offer, considering the best cars in Gran Turismo 7 is not easy - especially as it covers road racing and rally cars due to the nature of the game's simulator experience.

Thanks to being able to tweak so much within Gran Turismo 7, you can easily soup up a weaker car to be something far more spectacular. Of course, it'll cost you a number of credits and it might still not feel as cool as going big straight away.

This page covers our picks for the best cars as of the June 2022 update, as well as a look at the best cars for different regions and - of course - our pick for the fastest car in Gran Turismo 7.

Thanks to the intricate nature of Gran Turismo 7, it's possible to soup up cars to be a lot different from how they began when you first purchased them. It's well worth doing but that's not what we're focusing on here. Instead, we're looking at the base specs of each car and determining what we believe are the best choices.

In reality, it's like buying an actual car - different cars suit different driving styles, so it's worth experimenting for yourself. Nothing beats finding the car for you that also looks super stylish, even if we haven't already recommended it to you.

Having said that, to give you a helping hand, that's what his guide picks out a car for each scenario that is relatively simple to get in the game, and that works well for the given PP requirements that are often dished out for taking part in many races. We've also included some alternatives in each case.

As of the June 2022 update, which has introduced an entirely new track to the series, the best car picks in each category have remained static, aside from the best Asia-Oceania choice.

Right at the start, we recommend the Toyota Aqua S '11. It's a fairly dull looking hot hatch but it's cheap and immediately accessible with 349.25PP. A mere 120 horsepower offers reasonable acceleration and its handling is fairly good for the price.

In the case of this guide, we're looking at the cars that have the highest top speed. Of course, we're not ignoring great handling or good acceleration as both are important when achieving the top speed quoted.

Fast cars in Gran Turismo 7 are best suited on tracks that have long straights to speed along, but when dealing with a more technical track, you may wish to favour a car with superior handling so that you can handle those tricky turns.

Often, when tuning a car for speed, you actually want to focus on tyre quality rather than power, so make sure to upgrade your tyres to the right type to handle the road conditions you're up against more appropriately.

Everything about it is excessive which is why it costs an eye-watering 1,000,000 credits via Brand Central. It's definitely one to aim for, but there are other more achievable cars worth your money in the meantime.

The car has 739 horsepower, 634.16PP, and costs a mere 373,000 credits. Okay, that's not cheap, but you can get it for free. Complete Menu Book number 38 and you get the car along the way, but that's right at the end of the game, so you might want to invest earlier.

Earlier on in the campaign, the BMW M3 '07 is a better option. It costs 93,000 credits which should be simple enough to grind towards, and it's unlocked after completing menu book event 22. A PP of 533.76 feels positively sedate compared to the Tomahawk but you'll appreciate its reliability and the ability to tune it up to 624.44PP. 415 horsepower is more than sufficient at this level.
