Is there a workaround for people who don't have postscript printers to create a pdf from PageMaker? I tried downloading the universal postscript printer definition, but my computer won't install it since I don't have a postscript printer attached to my computer system! argh.I only use pdfs as proofs for long-distance graphic design jobs, never printing, so why must it have a postscript printer?I've heard that there's a Virtual Printer, but I've only found it in Mac version on this site and I need the Windows version. Can anyone point me in the right direction for that?Thanks,Holley
You'll simply install it as if you were installing an actual printer, via Start>Settings>Printers>Install New Printer.Keep in mind that simply installing a PPD is not enough - you need the actual driver, available here:
You don't need a PS printer physically attached to your computer as long as you use "Local Printer" and "File" as your port. In this manner, you should be able to install almost any PS printer. If you're using PM6.5 and the Scitex PS Bridge L2 is available in your Add Printer list, choose it, they get along very nicely when creating PDFs. For PM7, I like the Scitex Extreme L3, but those printer files may be harder to come by. And you can always try some of the Linotronic drivers. I haven't needed to use any of them for a while, but in the past they were very reliable.BobOh, and Holley, just refresh your web page next time you post (an icon with two arrows if you're using IE), some people get very annoyed seeing the same post four times.
just go to download the english version of "version 1.0.6", then just double click onto the downloaded exe and that will install the Adobe postscript printer driver. It will be listed as "Generic PostScript Printer".Hope that helps.
All the files you need are on the PM setup CD, complete with installer.
Use the Generic AdobePS Driver, and make sure the Distiller PPD, Adist5.ppd is
