RetrogradeBass recreates the sound of session bass players from the late 60's. Warm, analog, and vintage is where Retrograde Bass starts, but a whole host of tools can take the sound well into the future. From 1968 to 2068, Retrograde Bass is truly A Bass Odyssey.

You can switch back and forth between Palm Muted and Light Palm Muted using the Mod Wheel. We sampled the entire bass a second time, but with the palm slightly lifted to allow the strings to resonate longer.

We were able to track down an all-original 1968 Super Reverb for Retrograde Bass. Though it is normally a guitar amp, this amp was the weapon of choice for the session players on many your favorite records from the 60's and 70's.

The "Warped" signal path takes the essence of the original bass samples and processes them resulting in a lo-fi and characterful sound. Through manipulation, warping, bending, and shifting, this unique path stands out on its own or adds texture to any of the microphone positions.

We made a selection of carefully crafted effects available to allow you take the sound further creatively. From saturation, reverbs, modulation effects, compression and a lo-fi warble you can transform the sound to something unique and characterful.

Codename: Renegade contains all the tonal sound design and guitar material found in Boutique Drums Renegade. After the latter was released, we received emails and messages requesting that the non-percussive material be made available as a standalone library. We answered!

Designed for cinematic contexts, nu-metal, pop, rock and synthwave, this collection includes 20 thoughtfully-crafted patches built from a variety of sources, including: fat analog synths, electric pianos, orchestral recordings, eight-string electric guitar, bass guitar and nylon guitars.

Renegade is a drums and sound design library designed for producers of nu-metal, EDM, rock, pop and synthwave. We also aimed to make this a serious asset for modern underscoring with atmospheric percussion/synth pulses, brooding basses and experimental acoustic content.

We also recorded, processed and programmed a ton of sound design material but only included the efforts that we found inspiring, useful and complimentary to Renegade as a whole. What we ended up with was a curated collection of 31 multi-genre patches consisting of processed analog synths, bass and acoustic/electric guitars, live ensemble/solo percussion pulses, analog kits and more.

But at that point, Chuck wanted a custom bass. He went to the Alembic factory in Santa Rosa, California, where he was presented with a myriad of options. Chuck joked about how much deforestation he was probably responsible for based on the beautiful exotic woods that were available options at the time, such as the rare ebony facings on the front and back of the instrument. According to sources at Alembic, only four instruments were ever made with that option!

Francis: Chuck was in decidedly good company with other bassists of the day, including the likes of John Entwistle of The Who, Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, John McVie of Fleetwood Mac, Mark King of Level 42, and the virtuoso musician most closely identified with Alembic basses, jazz bass legend Stanley Clarke.

Francis: One of the cool stories Chuck told us about this bass is the fretboard LEDs, which are inlaid in the side of the neck of the guitar. He explained that on the Paradise Theater tour, Styx opened the show with the band in total darkness, so he needed some sort of point of reference once he got out there onstage. Of course, these days, cool glow-in-the-dark paint and gaffer tape can be used to similar effect, but seeing those LED dots glow red in pitch black is certainly something to behold.

Chuck proceeded to use that bass almost exclusively on the latter part of the Cornerstone tour in 1980, as well as on the subsequent Paradise Theater and Kilroy Was Here albums and tours in 1981 and 1983.

After many twists and turns, ups and downs, and certainly a fair amount of disappointment and disillusionment, in May 2016, the planets suddenly aligned, and we were able to bring our mission to its fruition.

As fans, it was extremely moving to see Chuck reunited with his basses and being able to hold them again. His mind seemed to drift off to some darkened stage, to another place and time from the not-too-distant past. It was a very special moment, for both him and us.

More of the story behind the return of Chuck's beloved Alembics can be found in this week's installment of Styxology, which is available to every Styx Lounge member. Click on JOIN to find out how you can join the club today!

White Castle, America's first fast-food hamburger chain, has been an inspiration to artists and bands for decades. The home of The Original Slider celebrated titans of the music industry by inducting three extraordinary Cravers into its exclusive Cravers Hall of Fame.

STYX singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw, renowned concert promoter Danny Zelisko, and the late singer-songwriter John Prine join fellow legends in the Castle halls of Crave. John Prine very sadly passed away in April 2020 due to complications caused by COVID-19.

Reserved for the most devout fans, White Castle's Cravers Hall of Fame has been inducting legends from main street to the main stage for nearly 20 years. Among the well-known honorees are rock icon Alice Cooper, the late comic pioneer Stan Lee, and the stars of "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle," John Cho and Kal Penn.

I have about 30 guitars from a 1950 fender broadcaster to Gibson les Paul 1967 and many more in between.

I also have a renegade bass. This is a well put together guitar and should not be shunned at. The maker of these guitars

did a great job for the price. His name is Andrew Presnell. He now works for Andrew Allan Guitars. Awesome sound and a very true neck.

: can any body give me some info on a guitar manufacturer called "Renegade" that makes a les paul copy. yeh there not that bad of a guitar to play i owe a few diffarent guitars fron gibson to fender and everything in-between and it is one of the better knock-offs i have, has nice action and good tone,as far as it sounding better being firewood that guy should go and get his ears flushed!!yeh ive been playing for about 18 years now and this guitar doesnt seemm that bad to me trust me there`s worse

: : can any body give me some info on a guitar manufacturer called "Renegade" that makes a les paul copy. : yes, they are total junk. sound best being used for campfire wood!!! If your a technical guitar player who does everything by brand and and play every note perfect then go pay $1500 and get a gibson or epiphone but if want a guitar that sounds just as good then for $300 you can buy a renegade and if you dont like it pay the extra $100 and get pickups that you like.
