Also I am going to need to buy a new computer soon, I thought maybe I can go linux all the way. Is this wise? Or are there any advantages of using OS X over linux in terms of stability and professional production quality (apart from the obvious fact that there are all these commercial software available on the mac which I am not really interested in anyway)? For instance how does the sample-rate conversion quality compare with a commercial software like izotope (which is what I use o the mac)? See here for more detail:
You may want to try AV Linux. Version 3.0 will be coming out by the end of November and will have Ardour 2.8.3 with the external UI extension required to run the linuxDSP LV2 plugins mentioned above (also included) Out of the box VST support with either FST or DSSI-VST is also included for VST plugins that comply (not ilok).
Thanks very much for your comments. Well actually I am not that dependent on vst plug-ins. I think I could manage to do more or less all that in csound (e.g. csLADSPA which works very nicely with Ardour).
Also it looks like my presonus Firebox is supported on linux so that should be fine. My only reservation is the money that I have already invested on OS X applications, and maybe one or two AU/vst plug-ins that I use (they are replaceable I am sure).
Also, for your vst plugins, you still can use them under linux using dssi-vst, a standalone host that will run them outside Ardour (you can use creating inserts on ardour tracks). The advantage of this is that if a vst plugin crashes or fails Ardour will not crash.
Sib. 7.5: For Three Personal Computer Activations - Additional Licenses or iLok
Posted by DavidisinLA - 16 Jan 12:29AM Hide picture Hello,
I looked at the knowledge base and the other questions on this forum and sent a request to Avid and called Avid without finding an answer.
I have three computers that I work on. No one else uses them and I only use them separately. Sebelius allows for 2 activations and for one user to use the program on one computer - all good.
I'm trying to find out if I can somehow activate Sebelius on all three of my computers for use by only me. Would I need to buy another license and if so how much would that cost? or Can I transfer the license to my iLok to be able to use the program on my three computers?
It being 2015 and many of us have multiple computers and devices I have found that all of my other software allows for my situation. I'm thinking maybe Avid does as well.
If anyone can help with an answer or direct me to an Avid person who exists and can answer then much appreciated.

Posted by Philip Woodroffe - 16 Jan 02:04AM (edited 16 Jan 02:06AM) Hide picture do you need to use all 3 computers at once? (edit... saw you said you only use one at once) all you need to do is activate 2 computers then when you need the 3rd one just say deactivate on one computer you want to temporarily disable, then activate in computer 3 and so on, you can only have 2 licenses active at any one time. i don't need to do this but i have tried it and it works. doesn't take long and its easy.
Sibelius doesn't use ilok for activations, it is all managed by the software and the sibelius servers.

Avid support responded that I should pay $599 for each of my computers. I don't think the CSR took the time to really understand what I was asking.
I'll probably try another Avid avenue tomorrow after I take a breath. Or not, this type of nonsense really tires me out and zaps my creativity - which is why I stopped using Pro Tools at version 9. I'm not here to bash Avid but I think they could focus on customer service and satisfaction a bit more than they do currently.
Re: Activating and deactivating - I can do that. I only use one computer at a time. I was thinking that since they have an online license bot checking that it doesn't really matter if the program is activated on 3 machines as long as only 1 person at a time is using the license number.
Thanks again. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: For Three Personal Computer Activations - Additional Licenses or iLok

Just a thought. Thanks Bob

Avid announced that they plan to offer iLok Network license support back in January 2018, but Sounds In Sync have gone one stage further and are now actually offering iLok Network Licenses for all their own products.
With the release of Pro Tools 2018.1 and iLok Cloud compatibility, we wanted to share in this article, up to date information about iLok Cloud compatible software and plug-ins, as we get it from brands and the community. Please be aware that this article will be updated as the information and compatibility status changes.
PACE has updated iLok License Manager ready for the iLok Cloud, but we recommend that you read this article before you update iLok License manager as it can appear as if all your licenses on your iLok have disappeared after updating to iLok License Manager v4.0.0. Don't worry, it's a simple fix and all the details are in this article.
2017 has been our first visit to AES show and it has been an excellent show. the return to New York and scheduling it from Wednesday to Friday, as well as the nature of what the Audio Engineering Society is all about, mean that this show has had a great feel and I have enjoyed this show and its format with the convention and technical paper program making it a well worth the time to come to.
We have been getting reports from several sources that all their iLok protected software has stopped working. The current issue is getting an Authorization Exception message. The simple fix is to make sure you are on the latest version of the iLok License Manager.
Your iLok can be worth more than it's weight in gold if you have a lot of software licenses on it. Looking after it and protecting it should be a high priority but we so often don't give it a second glance. In this article, we are going to look at a number of options to consider.
We have a number of iLok related help articles including a tutorial on Tutorial on how to use the iLok License Manager software, Setting Up Your iLok Account, The iLok License Manager And Activating Protected Software, and What Do I Do If My iLok Is Broken, Lost Or Stolen? In this article, we are going to cover some of the other iLok related problems that can crop up.
In this article, we are going to take a look at what you should do if an iLok is broken, lost or stolen. iLoks are incredibly valuable especially when you have a lot of software and plug-in licenses on them and so it is best to look after them carefully but when the unthinkable happens then this is what you should do....
Since 2013, the iLok License Manager software has been at the core of how we manage the iLok licenses, that protect a lot of the software we buy. This article and the video from Avid cover how to use the iLok License Manager software to manage for iLok licenses.
If you have never used an iLok before you will need to buy an iLok, create a free iLok account and transfer the iLok license onto your iLok or computer. Existing Pro Tools owners with Pro Tools 9 and above will have had to set up an iLok account and own an iLok as the Pro Tools Software is protected by an iLok license that is required to be on an iLok license.
