The Toll Roads offer a variety of transponders to best fit the needs of our drivers. Whether you have a sticker or switchable, all transponders issued by The Toll Roads can be used to pay tolls on any tolled bridge, lanes and road throughout California.

You can request sticker transponders or purchase FasTrak Flex switchable transponders by logging into your account at TheTollRoads.com or The Toll Roads app, by calling our Customer Service Call Center, by visiting one of our Customer Service Walk-In Centers or by purchasing toll credits at one of our retail partners.

Prior to starting each trip, it is the driver's responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+). Some tolling facilities allow qualifying carpools and eligible vehicles to drive for free or at a discounted rate. The Toll Roads do not offer carpool discounts, but FasTrak accountholders may be eligible for a frequent driver discount.

Motorcycle transponders are sticker transponders made specifically for motorcycles. They can be mounted to the headlamp lens or cover. If you have a motorcycle listed on your account, you can request a motorcycle sticker transponder by calling our Customer Service Call Center at 949-727-4800.

The I-15 Express Lanes are 20 miles of specially designated highway lanes that give solo drivers who cannot use carpool lanes, the option to pay a per-use toll to use the lanes. The express lanes are free to carpools, vanpools, motorcycles, clean air vehicles, and transit riders with no transponder needed. The express lanes were created to ease demand on regular freeway lanes and provide people who share the ride with a smoother, quicker, and more reliable trip. Solo drivers can use the I-15 Express Lanes by using a transponder connected to a prepaid SANDAG FasTrak account. Toll rates for solo drivers on the I-15 Express Lanes vary between $0.50 and $8.00, depending on the distance traveled and traffic in the lanes. The I-15 Express Lanes span between SR 78 in Escondido and SR 163 in San Diego.

The SR 125 Toll Road is a 10-mile expressway that uses FasTrak to allow customers to bypass toll plazas without stopping. Toll rates are up to 80% lower for FasTrak account holders than those that pay cash or credit at the time of their trip. SR 125 toll rates vary depending on the distance traveled and if you pay through a SANDAG FasTrak account. The SR 125 Toll Road spans from SR 905 in Otay Mesa north through eastern Chula Vista to SR 54 in Spring Valley.

Visit the FasTrak Portal to sign up for an account online. You will need your contact information, debit or credit card information, and license plate number(s) of your vehicle(s). The website will guide you through the application process. You may also call or visit us in person:

Place the sticker transponder in the lower left-hand corner or lower right-hand corner of the inside of the windshield. Or, place it behind the rearview mirror on the inside of the windshield (Consider visual aesthetics from inside and outside of the vehicle when choosing the location.)

Switchable FasTrak transponders (sometimes called FasTrak Flex) have a small black switch that can be moved to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle. It is the driver's responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+). This should be done prior to starting each trip.

Toll-free travel for qualifying carpools and other eligible vehicles is often only available to drivers who have a switchable FasTrak transponder; drivers with standard FasTrak transponders pay the full toll regardless of the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Keep your switchable FasTrak transponder(s) to be eligible for carpool discounts on designated express lanes throughout California. You can have, both, your sticker transponder and switchable transponder mounted to your windshield at the same time. The switchable transponder becomes the default transponder and the appropriate toll will be collected based on the settings on the switchable transponder. For information on carpooling with FasTrak, visit: TheTollRoads.com/Accounts/FasTrak/California.

If you have an old standard FasTrak transponder (with no small black switch), you can choose to dispose of it the way you would a battery or other hazardous household waste. For more information: CalRecycle.ca.gov/ReduceWaste/Batteries.

Under the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, appellants can have their ex parte appeals advanced out of turn. Appellants simply file a petition to request fast-track review of their ex parte appeal and pay a $420 petition fee. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB or Board) has set a target of issuing a decision within six months from the date the petition is granted and the ex parte appeal is entered into the pilot program.

The PTAB may exercise discretion to grant a small number of petitions above the 125-petition limit. Should a significant number of petitions exceeding the limit be filed in a quarter, such petitions will be held in abeyance and decided, in order of receipt, in a subsequent quarter.

The original pilot program had a total program limit of 500 petitions to ensure that the Board could balance its workload and continue to make progress in reducing the overall appeal pendency and reach its goal of 12-month average pendency for all appeals. The PTAB has removed this overall program limit with the pilot extension.

1. What is the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program? The Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program is a way for an appellant to have an ex parte appeal advanced out of turn before the PTAB. Under the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, an appellant may request expedited resolution of an ex parte appeal by filing a petition to the Chief Judge under 37 CFR 41.3 and submitting a fee of $420 under 37 CFR 41.20(a). The PTAB has a target of issuing a decision in an appeal under this program within six months from the date that the appeal is granted fast-track status.

2. My application was previously granted special status under the Prioritized Examination Program. Will that status carry over from examination to my appeal? No. If an application was granted special status under the Prioritized Examination Program, the special status will not carry over to an appeal involving that application. An appellant must file a petition for inclusion in the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program with the PTAB, accompanied by the $420 petition fee, to obtain expedited resolution of an ex parte appeal by the Board.

3. What is the effective date of the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program? The effective date of the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program is July 2, 2020. The pilot program was extended and is expected to run until July 2, 2024.

2. Which ex parte appeals are eligible for the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program? Appeals involving original utility, design, or plant nonprovisional applications are eligible for the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program. The Pilot Program is not available for applications or proceedings that are already treated as special during appeal, such as reissue applications, reexamination proceedings, or appeals made special due to the age or health of an applicant. See MPEP 708.01 for a complete list of cases that are treated as special.

2. My request for inclusion in the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program was denied. Can my petition fee be refunded? No. Due to statutory limitations on fee collections, the USPTO may not refund the petition fee once collected. The USPTO is statutorily permitted to issue refunds only for fees paid by mistake or in any amount in excess of that required.

3. Is the petition fee for the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program discounted for small and micro entities? No. The petition fee for the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program is not discounted for small and micro entities.

4. What happens if an appellant fails to pay the fee with the petition? If an appellant fails to pay the fee with the petition for inclusion in the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, the USPTO will deny the petition.

2. How will I know if the program limits have been reached? The USPTO will communicate the current number of granted petitions via the PTAB web site www.uspto.gov/PTABFastTrack, and appellants should take this information into account when making decisions on whether to file a petition.

4. My appeal has been granted fast-track status under the pilot program, when can I expect a decision? If an ex parte appeal is entered into the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, the PTAB has a target of reaching a decision on the appeal within six months from the date of entry into the Pilot Program.

2. If I cannot attend the scheduled oral hearing, can the hearing be rescheduled and my appeal remain in the pilot program? No. An appellant may not request to reschedule an oral hearing and remain in the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program. An appellant who does not wish to attend the scheduled hearing at the designated place may request to attend the hearing by video or telephone, in accordance with current PTAB hearing procedures. An appellant may also waive the hearing and continue participation in the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program. An appellant who desires to reschedule the place, date, or time of the oral hearing may opt out of the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, thereby regaining the ability to reschedule or relocate the hearing as per ordinary PTAB hearing procedures. If an appellant opts out of the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program, the appellant will not be entitled to a refund of the petition fee.
