 I, Satyaki Mazumder (faculty of IISER-K), along with some other friends
went to Kamduni yesterday (16/06/2013). We met the family of victim. They
are facing a miserable condition both mentally and financially. However, as
you know they refused to take any kind of financial support from Government
or from any other political parties. They are still strict in their
decision. But in the mean time, the girls brother lost all his private
tuition which was the only source of their income. So, we decided to
collect some amount of money to support the family in this extreme
situation. We have talked with her brother and he has  agreed to receive it
if it has no political issue. He also does not want this to make public.

On the basis of the above scenario we are requesting all our friends and
colleagues to donate in my account (account number is given below)
urgently. After collecting the money we would go personally to their home
to hand over the total amount we will collect. Kindly drop an email to this
email id mentioning the amount whenever you donate, with your name. That
way we will be able to work on the amount systematically.  Awaiting for
your reply soon.

Not sure if I should pitch in, but here's what I think.

1. As much as we are sympathetic to the people and families concerned, the moment someone asks for money (either on their behalf or by oneself), one creates accountability issues. Has these been clearly worked out? One needs to be careful about either asking for or contributing to money in these circumstances.

2. Also, it's best that the bank account details are not publicly distributed or shared with anyone (rather, if anyone is interested to financially contribute, only he or she should know the bank account details). 

3. What are the different ways in which "aid" can be reached to the family and the village? It's important to prevent another incident, and provide resources to these poor people to fight legal battles, and create a structure of social security around them. There must be government or social welfare schemes that these families can tap into; have these been looked at by anyone?

IFS Code No. of the SBI Account  is necessary to send money to the Account of Satyaki. I believe this is a Savings Babk Account but it needs to be clearly mentioned. Alternately, possibility and prospects of  of opening a separate SBAC , e.g.,  "KAMDUNI ACCOUNT" may be explored to avoid Accounting problems.
