Rapid, repeated expanding followed by shrinking of ISR--too few partitions, or something else?

Hi Everyone,

We're currently in a situation where the ISR for a bunch of our partitions are going through frequent ISR expansion/shrinking cycles. I understand from the docs that Kafka shrinks the ISR for a partition if the follower replicas get too far behind.

Question--is this a symptom of too few partitions, or is there another root cause we should investigate.

Any guidance is definitely appreciated.

Thanks

#1 cause is GC pauses causing loss of connectivity to Zookeeper. I'd check that first.
