In the latter 17th century and into the 18th there was a big controversy on the style of the Greek in the NT, and to what extent it can be illuminated by the heathen Greek classics. This controversy has been totally ignored in all the secondary literature I have read, but I came across it while reading Johann Georg Walch's Bibliotheca Theologica Selecta, 4:276-85, 321, 324-31.

The secondary literature has fixated on the vowel points controversy--it was debated whether the Hebrew vowel points were inspired and authentic--but Walch indicates that this controversy on the style of the Greek NT attracted more attention, and that is certainly borne out by the number of works that he cites.
