I too am grieving from the news of Gabe Fackre's decline.

And it just dawned on me that you all may not know that Dick Olmsted died two weekends ago. He too had been in decline for some time. I understand that he was accompanied into glory with Mozart playing!

And I just read that George Lindbeck died Jan. 8 !

I have been standing on these three's shoulders for decades. What sad days these are for us.

Sad days indeed, Gail!

I remember a meeting of the Mass Steering Committee back in the 90s, around the time of Gabe's first bout of illness and an accompanying bad drug interaction, he was explaining that he was going to need to cut back on CC involvement. Ken Powell expressed dismay at Gabe's news, asking in effect, "What will we do without you?" Gabe looked around the table, and in a quiet, gentle way said, "My generation fades, and soon it will be up to all of you." Now we find that some of us are no spring chickens ourselves, but the imperative remains to pass on the legacy.

So we grieve, but importantly not in the manner of those who have no hope. Methinks we need to gather the New England clan.
