Dear "Year with the Institutes" friends: I am happy to announce to you this morning the plan for next year. As of this past Friday, we now have permission from the relevant publishers. The PTS reading and study plan will use the first-ever English translation of Calvin's 1541 Institutes. As translator Elsie McKee notes, "...this is the freshest and most conversational form of Calvin's major work." The 1541 Institutes project will also include links to Calvin's biblical translations and commentaries on key passages for each of the eighteen chapters. Resources will be provided for Bible study related to those key biblical passages. Also, we will provide links to relevant sections of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Book of Confessions and study papers. This new approach will make possible engagement with both Calvin's biblical bases for claims made in the 1541 Institutes and the ongoing conversation within one tradition within the Reformed tradition. Stay tuned for further informatin and updates.
