A gaming keyboard is a special type of keyboard that's designed with quick actuation time and other features that can help enhance gaming performance. Gaming keyboards are available in different form factors, which refer to the size of the keyboard and the number of keys it has. You can also find smaller keyboards that give you more room on your gaming mouse pad for mouse movement and comfortable keyboard position to reach all the keys and buttons.
Like most gaming and streaming gear, the cost of gaming keyboards can vary depending on the model you choose. You can find more affordable gaming keyboards for around $50, but a premium gaming keyboard with the best mechanical switches can cost upwards of $200 or more. Sometimes you can save money with a gaming keyboard and mouse bundle, but you can expect to pay somewhere in that range for the average gaming keyboard.
There are wired and wireless gaming keyboards, including LIGHTSPEED wireless and Bluetooth models. For mobile gaming, Bluetooth keyboards are a popular choice due to compatibility, while most people choose a wireless gaming keyboard for PC setups. That being said, the switches are the important thing to look at when it comes to gaming keyboards. And we offer many, from mechanical GX tactile, clicky and linear to low-profile mechanical GL tactile, clicky, linear, and other options.
The standard keyboards you buy at most stores use rubber dome switches, while many gaming keyboards use mechanical switches. The switches you have in your keyboard determine how fast you can press keys, how keypresses feel, and how long your keyboard lasts. If you're looking for the best keyboard for gaming, you typically want to go with mechanical switches over rubber dome switches.
A Logitech G gaming keyboard has features that are built for gamers while having many standard features found on a regular keyboard. The same is true for gaming mice. The best part is that gaming keyboards and mice are usually designed with ergonomics in mind, so they make excellent daily drivers for office work.
There are a handful of different gaming keyboard sizes you can choose from based on your hand size, desk space, and preferences. Full-size keyboards have all the standard keys, including the number pad and arrow keys. Tenkeyless (TKL) keyboards don't have the 10-key number pad that you'll find on most keyboards, but they do have arrow keys.
Lighting: Lighting doesn't just make your keyboard look cool, it also helps you see the keys you're pressing when you're gaming or typing in the dark. And, lighting can be programmed with LIGHTSYNC RGB to color code your keys to stand out. This is great for games with special key commands.
Whether it's a gaming keyboard or a gaming headset, you can't go wrong with any of the gear in the Logitech G gaming gear lineup. We have affordable options if you're looking for an entry-level keyboard, as well as mechanical keyboards with some of the fastest switches and sleekest backlighting.
I just read somewhere that, for example on the Logitech LX-501 keyboard, the Insert is on one of the round blue buttons (next to the function keys). On some Microsoft keyboards one needs to hold down some Fn-key and press PrtScr.
My answer is very specific to one particular situation. It will not necessarily work in other situations. I have a Logitech k750-mac solar wireless keyboard. I am running on a MacBook Pro accessing a Windows 10 desktop remotely. In this situation, I use the Shift + number-pad-0 key. But it only works with some software! Furthermore, I suspect the answer to this question will be more or less a table of situations with solutions specific to those situations, rather than a general solution.
On a small laptop, like the new HP G5, you have to activate the NumLock to access the numbers pad, then use shift + 0.It is not written, but it works to activate and deactivate this stupid feature.
I have a Logitech K850 wireless keyboard that worked with my old iPhone 8. I recently upgraded to a iPhone 12 Pro. I can successfully pair the keyboard and my new phone, but the connection is dropped almost immediately and I am not able to type anything on the keyboard and have it appear on the phone. This is my primary keyboard for my PC and is less than 3 months old so it would be nice if I could get this to work like it did on my old phone.
Ok, that doesn't really help me because I have a Bluetooth connection defined between the keyboard and phone but the keyboard makes no input on the phone at all. This worked on my iPhone 8. This connection quickly times out.
I've noticed something interesting. When the keyboard is attached to my phone via bluetooth, the Apple keyboard does not show up on the screen. If I type on the Logitech keyboard I get nothing but I can only get the Apple onscreen keyboard back if I disconnect the bluetooth or if the connection drops.
Recently I installed iPadOS public beta and bought an external third party keyboard. The spacebar of the keyboard does not work properly on some applications including the native email app. When I clicked on the spacebar, it inputs newline instead of space. Also, I noticed I can input space by clicking on shift+spacebar or alt+spacebar.
Same issue here. I'm wondering if it's specific to 3rd party keyboards (vs Apple's Smart Keyboard Folio)? I've also tried with multiple (non-Apple) bluetooth keyboards.
Hope this will be resolved in the final release.
And a bit more, you can just clear the shortcut for Spacebar under the "full keyboard access>>Commands" (it was set as act of Activate by default), don't need to disable the full function in case you need other shortcut to control the ipad.
If you want a wireless keyboard with a built-in number pad, we recommend the Logitech K585 Slim Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard, which is more compact than many other models with number pads. Like our top pick, the K585 is inexpensive, offers a comfortable typing experience, and has a battery that will last for years. The K585 also provides a convenient stand for a phone or tablet, a feature that none of our other picks have. But this keyboard lacks a backlight, and it can connect to and swap between only two devices.
Wireless keyboards can help you declutter your desk, allow you to type more comfortably on your phone or tablet, or let you use a computer or a TV streaming device from your couch. Desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, smart TVs, and streaming devices all use Bluetooth, and the best Bluetooth keyboards can switch easily between multiple devices.
It has a compact, convenient, laptop-like layout. The K380s has all the most frequently used keys, including function, media, and small arrow keys. It lacks a number pad, but as a result it takes up much less room on a desk and is small and light enough to slip in a bag and take with you.
Numerous Wirecutter staffers have used the Logitech K380 for years, since we first made it our top pick in 2015. The K380 is no longer our top pick because it was discontinued and replaced by the very similar Pebble Keys 2 K380s in September 2023, but we expect both models to hold up similarly over time.
It has small arrow keys and lacks a built-in number pad. If you need a full-size number pad or larger arrow keys, consider a separate number pad to use with our pick or check out our full-size or upgrade picks, both of which have standard-size arrow keys.
You can choose how your keyboard feels. NuPhy offers several switch options: tactile Brown switches with a satisfying bump, clicky Blue switches that issue a crisp clicking sound, and linear Red switches that offer less feedback but feel smoother. The Air75 and Air96 both support hot-swap, which means you can remove the included switches and put in any other low-profile switch without having to replace the whole keyboard. (You can read more about switches in our introductory guide to mechanical keyboards.)
They have shorter battery life but can also work in wired mode. NuPhy doubled the battery capacity for the Air75 V2 over its predecessor, and the company claims the V2 will last between 35 and 57 hours with the lights on and up to 220 hours with its lights off. NuPhy claims the Air96 will last between 35 and 120 hours with its lights on and up to 220 hours with the lights off. We like that both models can work in wired mode when the battery runs low or dies.
Neither the Satechi SM1 nor the Keychron K3 Max feel as nice to type on as our upgrade pick, and the SM1 lacks hot-swap. They also have shorter battery life, and the edge of their spacebars sits at an uncomfortable angle.
