Hello, so today while I was cleaning my temp folder, I noticed a folder named "msdtadmin", when I tried deleting it, it said I needed to provide administrator permissions, and when I tried opening it, it said "You dont currently have perissions to open this folder, Click HERE to get access"

MSDT stands for Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool, it is a built-in tool in Windows that can be used to diagnose and troubleshoot Windows issues. This can be activated when you contacted a Microsoft Support Engineer and provided you with a PassKey. With regard to your query, one of the possible reasons why msdt and msdtadmin folders appear in your temp folder is when the tool has been used.

I was deleting files from %temp% (C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp), and found msdtadmin as folder that requires admin to open and delete. There is another called msdt. maybe msdtadmin is a virus that's spoofing a windows file / spoofing msdt?? I ran MSERT and got nothing, right now running malwarebytes (because my McAfee expired) and got 2 things. Something I've deleted and something that I don't remember installing. I'm not very sure how I would have a virus considering I don't download any weird stuff, but who knows. Maybe something random has a virus \_(ツ)_/

Hello, so while browsing through my temp folder, I found a sketchy file called msdtadmin. I really don't know what it is. I don't know if it's a virus, as the date of creation is the time I reinstalled Windows 7, so I doubt I would've got it from some site or anything. Is it a virus? And eventually, if it is, what are the correct ways to delete it? Thanks.

Hello, I'm sorry for making this thread again. I did not put the logs, and I don't know how to edit threads. While going through my Temp folder, I noticed a suspicious folder called msdtadmin and some suspicious files, with the name of my pc and the date those files were created. I don't know much about msdtadmin, as it was created around the time I reinstalled Windows 7. Here are the logs, thanks for reading!

Heres what I Discovered. I Had the Folder in My TEMP folder and Could Not remove it, could not open it . I Was Running an Application called Simple MBOX Viewer . I closed the MBOX application normally and was Able to Remove the file to Recycle Bin. However Normal emptying would not remove the file From the Recycle Bin. So I right Clicked the file and selected Delete and was Prompted the file could not be removed to retry or continue. I clicked continue and its Deleted the file. Operating with

Create a new empty folder somewhere on your computer, e.g. /tmp/recovery and copy your .git folder there. Then switch to the directory and perform a git status. Does its output match your expectations? It probably will tell you about lots of "deleted in the worktree" files. If that's the case, do git checkout HEAD -- . in your new empty directory.

Also, when you do go about cleaning up your files, only touch the files that you've created and no others. Other applications may need those files. If tracking your own files is too much trouble, create a folder that you can safely empty at will.

To anyone having the same problem in the future, /tmp is a sticky folder by default, meaning only the file owner can modify it. Therefore, to change others' files, you must remove the sticky bit: sudo chmod -t /tmp. Note that you should turn it back on afterward: sudo chmod +t /tmp.

In Windows 10 and the User account is set to Administrator. I am having an issue with getting an access denied to temp folder, tthe folder path is c:\users\UserName\appdata\local\tempI need access to a subfolder in the temp to install a program. c:\users\UserName\appdata\local\temp\RarSFX0 . I am able to access other subfolders in the \Appdate\Local folder. Only the Temp folder is giving the access denied error. I check in the Temp Folder Properties > Advanced and it is showing the User is the OWner of the Folder. Thanks in advanced for any assistance/info on how to resolve. Thank you

Hi John, thanks very much for the help. I think I it fixed it. I am not sure what caused it. I was no l onger able to install programs. I don't work with folder permissions that often so I always get confused with that stuff. what I did was add the Adminstrator Group to the Permissions and it seemed to work. Only my Account was listed, but I am listed as an Admin, that is why I was confused why I lost access to the Temp Folder.

As you can see in the picture above, just below the Temporary files entry, Windows 10 displays the space used by temporary files. On my PC, temporary files are using a whopping on 11.5 GB. Note that Windows 10 takes into account of space used by Downloads folder, Recycle Bin, the previous version of Windows (Windows.old folder), and temporary files folder while calculating the size of temporary files.

How about doing a tiny backup to the NAS, checking result in seconds?
As noted, use a different folder. If this works, how did big backup differ?
Lack of dlist suggests possible earlier failure, but without a message?
This may need some more logging, but tiny test run should be far faster.

The temporary files folder can also be a carrier of malicious files. You should delete all the temporary files and folders regularly for the smooth running of the system. Removing the temporary files would also clear the unnecessary clutter from your system and free up valuable space.
